Dortmund vs. Bayern: Bayern -1 (Handicap Betting)

According to Gary Lineker, football is a simple game; Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.

When it comes to Der Klassiker, at the end, Bayern Munich win. They have triumphed in their last seven Bundesliga games against Borussia Dortmund, and eight in all competitions if we include the Super Cup. They will also have had an extra day to prepare for this, with their midweek game at home against Viktoria Plzen (a lovely woman) much less tiring than Dortmund’s trip to Seville.

Often when these teams meet, the men from Munich score first and never really relinquish control. Other times, Dortmund go two goals up early on (as occurred in March 2021) but at the end, Bayern win.

They usually do so with plenty of goals too, having scored at least three times in each of the last six meetings. Assuming they do so again – and they average of 2.5 expected goals per match suggests they can – then Bayern can overcome the handicap and win by at least two goals.

Dortmund vs. Bayern: Both teams to score

Julian Nagelsmann’s side will likely need to score three once again to finish with a margin of at least two in their favour, as they rarely keep a clean sheet against Dortmund. Both teams have scored in each of the last six meetings.

While they haven’t seen that occur too often in their own games this season, that’s because these clubs win to nil fairly regularly. Dortmund and Bayern have each only failed to score once in the 2022/23 Bundesliga, and in the latter’s case, they somehow wasted 2.2 expected goals when it did occur. There should be quite a few chances at each end of Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, which will see both team score.

Brighton vs. Tottenham: Brighton to win

Brighton’s match with Tottenham might not feel as important as a clash between the big two in Germany, but with these sides in the Premier League top four at the start of the weekend, it’s a good litmus test for their ambitions. In their first match under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, the Seagulls were impressive as they got a point at Liverpool last weekend (and probably should have won). That will give them confidence ahead of this match at the Amex, where they’ve won two and drawn one of their three games this season.

The underlying data for 2022/23 suggests they should be short-priced favourites for this match too. Tottenham’s away form has been shaky lately, with defeats against Sporting and Arsenal between draws at West Ham and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Although an away win here would not be a shock, the price for a Brighton victory is too juicy to ignore.

Home Team Total Cards Over 1.5

Away Team Total Cards Over 1.5

These two clubs were among the top six in the division for total cards per game last season, in part because they received five apiece across their two clashes.
Tottenham have taken their record and run with it in 2022/23, aided by Emerson Royal’s stupid red card at the Emirates last weekend.

No Premier League team has seen more opponents booked this season either, with Spurs’ matches averaging 4.6 yellow cards each.

Referee Tony Harrington is inexperienced at Premier League level and hasn’t been too card heavy so far. However, only once in 2022/23 has a team playing Tottenham received fewer than two yellow cards so Brighton should hit over 1.5 cards. Spurs should too, which rounds off our Bet Builder.
