Tuesday night’s Champions League action has some real humdingers lined up for us to sink our gnashers into. We’ll be looking at the all-British game between Liverpool and Rangers at Anfield. In the same group, Ajax welcome Napoli to the Johan Cruijff Arena. Elsewhere, last year’s Europa League winners, Eintracht Frankfurt welcome Spurs to town following their 3-1 away defeat in the North London derby over the weekend. Oh, and there’s the little matter of Inter facing Barcelona at the San Siro too.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Ajax vs Napoli: Over 3.5 Goals

TV: BT Sport Extra (8pm)

Ajax’s recent form would suggest that the away side should maybe be the favourites here, particularly as Napoli have won five on the bounce now whereas the hosts have only won two of their last five fixtures, drawing one and losing two. On home turf, de Godenzonen are in far better shape though; winning four of their last five played there, drawing the other one, scoring a very healthy 20 goals while conceding just two. Their recent Champions League record in Amsterdam is pretty impressive too with four wins and one loss, scoring 14 while conceding three.

As mentioned above, Gli Azzurri have won all five of their most recent games and indeed of their 10 competitive games so far this season have won eight and drawn two. Away from home this season they’ve played a total of five games, winning four and drawing one, scoring 12 while conceding four. Their away Champions League record is decent but not as spectacular as their overall form with two wins, two draws and one loss, scoring eight while conceding six. While the travelling side are in the better form there are still plenty of goals in this Ajax side and with both displaying such solid goal-scoring form we’re expecting plenty of goals here; we’re backing Over 3.5 Goals.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham: Under 2.5 Goals

TV: BT Sport 3 (8pm)

Frankfurt have won three of their last five fixtures, losing the other two and over their last five on home soil have won two, drawn one and lost two, scoring seven goals while conceding five. Spurs were a bit toothless in their derby loss away to Arsenal on Saturday and will have to be back at it here to catch Sporting at the top of their Group on six points.

Of course, Frankfurt beat Betis, Barcelona, Rangers and West Ham on their run to the Europa League final last season and won’t fear a Spurs side who tend to sit back and draw pressure onto themselves. Saying that the stats show that this Spurs side have more goals in them, scoring 11 over their last five and six over their last five on the road while the hosts have netted just six over their last five matches and seven over their last five at home. Over 2.5 Goals has only been seen in two of the host’s last five at home and in two of Antonio Conte’s last five on the road too. With those stats there’s some decent value in backing Under 2.5 Goals here.

Inter vs Barcelona: Barcelona to win

TV: BT Sport ESPN (8pm)

Barcelona are hitting a rich vein of form finds them coming into this Group C match as odds-on favourites. The Catalans have won four of their last five fixtures, losing the other one, scoring a very vigorous 13 goals and conceding just three. Over their last five games on their away jaunts they’ve also won four and lost one, scoring 12 while conceding three. Their away Champions League record isn’t mighty with just one win over their last five fixtures, drawing one and losing three but over their away Europa League games last season they beat Napoli and Galatasaray and drew with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Inter are really missing their leading forward Romelu Lukaku since he went out injured in August. The Belgian will not play here either and their forwards Edin Dzeko, Joaquin Correa and Lautaro Martinez have only scored eight goals between them so far this season. Inter’s form has seen them winning two and losing three of their last five while on home soil have fared better with three wins and two losses. Inter have the ability to score here but with their forwards low on confidence as well as Barcelona keeping six clean sheets over their last 10 combined overall and away games we can only see Xavi’s side taking the three points here.

Liverpool vs Rangers: Both Teams to Score, No Draw

TV: BT Sport 2 (8pm)

No doubt Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronkhorst wouldn’t have fancied his chances away to Liverpool when the Champions League draw was made in late August. Now though, with Liverpool winning just two of their last five fixtures the Dutchman might just feel his side can get something positive at Anfield. Liverpool have won just two of their last five fixtures, drawing one and losing one and while they fought back from 0-2 down at home to Brighton over the weekend they let Brighton back into the game and were forced to take the draw. At Anfield results have been better though, the Red have gone unbeaten over their five home games this season, winning three and drawing two, scoring 17 while conceding six.

Rangers have won just two of their last five games, losing the other three and on their recent travels have won two, drawn one and lost two, scoring seven while conceding 10. The home side are very short odds to win here but they’ve conceded in four of their five home games this season and in three of their last five at home in the Champions League. The Scottish side will be fired up for this and against that leaky Liverpool defence, which has conceded nine over their last five matches, we see them drawing some blood here. We don’t see this ending level though so the value here is in backing Both Teams to Score, No Draw.
