Sunday lunchtime’s entertainment on the telly is a clash between two of the most in-form clubs in the country, Plymouth and Ipswich. The Tractor Boys are top of League One with 21 points from nine games and they’re undefeated this season.
Their hosts are two places and two points behind them heading into the weekend and they have a fearsome 100% record at Home Park so far this term. Something’s got to give.
Argyle have lost just two games all season, with both of those coming in the first four matches of the campaign and both away from home. This is so hard to call as both are in sublime form and are both incredibly effieicnt at both ends of the pitch.
Given that the away side are massive favourites the value is siding with the Argyle to get something out of this. With all three results a real live possibility I think backing two of them with Argyle and The Draw in the Double Chancemarket is our best play here.
Despite each side keeping five clean sheets in their opening nine matches I think we have to be on Both Teams to Score here. With a combined 34 goals in their 18 games these two are ticking along at a shade under two goals scored a game on average.
They get loads of shots away as well. Town average 6.4 shots on target a match while it’s bang on five for Plymouth. Argyle seem the take the ‘we’re gunna score one more than you’ approach so I think we’ll see plenty of action in a cracking game.
Which leads us nicely onto a punt in the Overs market and specifically Over 2.5 Goals. Over 3.5 Goals is a fine play but we’ll just play it a bit safer with 2.5.
Both Over 2.5 and Over 3.5 Goals has landed in two of Argyle’s last three and the same number in Ipswich’s last four. There is the caveat of both side’s quality defences but with the attacking talent both have up their sleeves we’ll surely see three or more goals here.
With Argyle sharing the goals about the standout punt to me in the goal-scorer markets is Ipswich’s Conor Chaplin. He’s fired six in 10 appearances and he’s averaging a goal for every 100 minutes played this term.
Anytime is a good way to play but with Chaplin opening the scoring in three of their last four matches it might pay to back him to get the ball rolling here. At a handsome price we’ll finish with Conor Chaplin to Score First.
