Sunday sees the first Madrid derby of the season and it’s consistently one of the best fixtures on the planet for a neutral. There’s elite s**thousery, world-class players, a rabid atmosphere and drama all the way.
It’s a footballing utopia. To get the juices flowing I’ve rustled up a beautiful Bet Builder so Sunday’s showpiece so let’s see what the markets are offering up.

Real Madrid have started the season in perfect form. They’ve notched up eight wins out of eight in all competitions heading into this one. Atleti’s form is decent but not bulletproof, they’ve won four, drawn one and lost two.
Before you rush off to back Real to win, the key thing to note here is that whoever’s at home in this fixture normally gets something out of it. You have to go back eight games for the last time the away side won any Madrid derby.
Atleti have won or drawn five of the last six on home soil in this game. With Real being the big favourites in the W-D-W market, I think we’d be wise to kick off with a nice, sensible Atletico Madrid Win/Draw in the Double Chance market, especially with Karim Benzema missing for the visitors through injury.
Under 2.5 Goals
Another really common theme in this fixture is a serious lack of goals. Against everyone else this season these two have had lots of high-scoring matches with Real seeing 3.38 goals per game this term and Atleti ticking along at 2.43 per match.
But in the Madrid derby has seen a poultry 20 goals in the last 12 matches in all competitions with 10 of those coming in two matches, both in the 2018/19 season. Under 2.5 Goals has clicked in this match the last seven times it’s been played so all the signs are pointing to a tense, low-scoring contest.

Federico Valverde to Have 1 or More Shots on Target
With Karim Benzema missing Real will have to adjust how they play and Rodrygo seems likely to start up top. He’s a decent price in Paddy’s various shots on target markets if he does get the nod but I like the look of Federico Valverde to Have 1 or More Shots on Target.
You may have seen his wondergoal earlier this week and he’s clearly a player full of confidence who should start at the Wanda Metropolitano. He’s also averaging 1.5 Shots on Target per 90 minutes played so I don’t think we’re asking too much for him to test Jan Oblak at least once.
Antoine Griezmann to Score or Assist
You have to think that Atletico would be a lot higher than 7th in La Liga if they could play Antoine Griezmann for more than 29 minutes and 59 seconds in every match. Because the terms of the loan agreement with Barcelona, Diego Simeone’s is playing the Frenchman for under 30 minutes per match else they’d have to fork out to make the deal permanent.
When he gets on the pitch he’s having a big impact and is probably Atleti’s classiest player. Griezmann to Score Last is an interesting play but I think, given his all round threat, Griezmann to Score or Assist is a fair price and will hopefully set up up for a grandstand finish, especially if we’re banking on Atleti getting something out of this match.
