Friday 8pm: Aston Villa v Southampton
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Southampton to Win

Aston Villa displayed a resolve against Manchester City that they had not previously exhibited this season. The result helped to ease the mounting pressure on Steven Gerrard somewhat, but they still have a long way to go before the boss’ job is safe.

Villa have taken just four points in six games this season and only find themselves outside the bottom three courtesy of goals scored. It is still early days, but there are worrying signs for Gerrard.

Southampton, on the other hand, have made a relatively bright start to the season, recovering well from a 4-1 defeat at Tottenham on the opening day. The Saints have taken seven points from six games, winning two, drawing one, and losing three.

Their summer acquisitions look particularly shrewd, and they will fancy their chances against a struggling Villa outfit. Southampton to Win kicks us off.

Both Teams To Score

Southampton have been promising in the early stages of the season, but their defensive record has left a lot to be desired. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are without a clean sheet after six games, with both of their league victories coming from losing positions.

They face a Villa side that has also failed to register a clean sheet in six games this season. Villa and Southampton have conceded 10 goals apiece in the league this season, so don’t expect Friday night’s clash to be short of goalmouth action.

Villa have also scored in each of their last five league games – including in games against Arsenal and Manchester City – and should cause problems for a leaky Southampton defence. There should be goals on Friday night so we’ll go with Both Teams To Score.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

    Joe Aribo to Score Anytime

Joe Aribo has been one of several Southampton summer signings to make a positive impact since arriving at St. Mary’s over the summer. The former Rangers midfielder has already scored once for the Saints, pulling a goal back in the 2-2 draw with Leeds in their second game of the season.

Aribo, who averages one shot per game for Southampton this year, scored nine goals from midfield for Rangers last season and will cause plenty of problems for a struggling Villa defence on Friday. Joe Aribo is a good bet to Score Anytime.

    Emiliano Buendia Anytime Assist

Emiliano Buendia has only registered one assist for Villa this season, but he has undoubtedly been one of their more creative players. The former Norwich man creates an average of 0.86 chances per game – the second-best record of any Villa player after Jacob Ramsey – and averages 0.8 key passes per game.

Despite a relatively underwhelming first season at Villa Park last year, Buendia still registered the joint-most assists at the club along with Danny Ings, with both players setting up six goals. He is clearly an important cog in Villa’s attacking wheel so Buendia Anytime Assist rounds us off.
