WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

The Friday night football features a double header from the Premier League where Aston Villa host Southampton while Nottingham Forest entertain Fulham at the same time. Elsewhere we’ve dug up some value picks in the German Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1. Let’s get the ball rolling then in Germany where Mainz welcome Hertha Berlin to town.

7:30PM: MAINZ V HERTHA BERLIN – MAINZ TO WIN

TV: Sky Sports Football

Mainz’s seven competitive games so far this season have seen them win four, draw one and lose two so far, while Hertha have won just one of their seven games, drawing three (losing one on penalties) and losing two. Over their Bundeliga fixtures, the home side have won three, drawn one and lost two, scoring six while conceding nine; whereas the Berliners have won one, drawn two and lost three, scoring six and conceding eight.

Over their last six meetings at both grounds, Mainz have won four, with two ending all square. Of the games played in Mainz’s home ground, the Mewa Arena – Mainz have won four of the last six meetings, with the other two ending in a draw. With the away side in the better form of the two, we have to go with them to take the three points here.

7:45PM: SALERNITANA V LECCE – DRAW

TV: BT Sport 2

Salernitana are proving a tough nut to crack in the Serie A this season. They’ve only lost one of their six games so far, winning one and drawing four, scoring nine while conceding six. Lecce have failed to win any of their six league clashes thus far, drawing three and losing three, scoring just four goals while conceding seven.

Including last season, the hosts have won just one of their last five games on home soil, drawing two and losing two, scoring seven and conceding eight, with Both Teams to Score landing in two and Over 2.5 Goals occurring in three.

Lecce have won just one of their last five away league fixtures, drawing one and losing three, scoring five and conceding seven, with BTTS landing in three and Overs in two. Many will be tempted to go with the price for a home win here, but it must be noted that seven of the last 10 combined home/away games for both teams have ended level.

Both have proven tough to beat of late and really, the best value here is in backing it to end all square.

8PM: ASTON VILLA V SOUTHAMPTON – BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

TV: Sky Sports Main Event

Aston Villa’s seven games in all competitions this season have seen the Villains winning just two fixtures, drawing one and losing four. Southampton have done a bit better with three wins, one draw and three losses.

It is tempting then to go for a Saints win isn’t it? Well, not quite. Their away form going into last season is pretty rough, they’ve only won one of their last five on the road in the Premier League, losing the other four, but we’ve at least seen BTTS landing in three of those games where they’ve scored four and conceded an eye-watering 13.

Villa have proven tough to beat on home soil over their last five league encounters, losing just one of their last five played at Villa Park, drawing three and winning one, scoring five while conceding five – with BTTS landing in four of those five.

Looking at those goal stats, we have to go with the BTTS price here.

8PM: NOTTINGHAM FOREST V FULHAM: ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC TO SCORE ANYTIME

The Nottingham Forest defenders will be forgiven for being a bit nervous come Friday night kickoff time as Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic bounds onto the pitch at the City Ground. The Serbian striker has six goals in six Premier League appearances so far this season, keeping his golden touch running from last season’s promotion-winning campaign with the Cottagers, where he netted 43 over his 44 games.

To make matters even more dour for Steve Cooper’s back three, Mitrovic has faced Forest seven times so far over his career in England, and has scored a total of four goals.

Getting a striker in such mighty form at odds above Evens here screams value at us. We’re all over this one.

8PM: AUXERRE V LORIENT – LORIENT TO WIN

TV: BT Sport 3

Much of the focus will be on the away side here in this Ligue 1 clash; Lorient have started the season in great form winning five of their seven league games, drawing one and losing one. On their league jaunts they’ve won two, drawn one and lost one of their four away games. The home side on the other hand, have won just two of their seven league games so far, drawing one and losing four and at the Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps have won just one of their three home league games, drawing one and losing one.

Auxerre have also lost all three of their most recent fixtures, shipping nine goals and responding with just one. The travelling side took a maximum nine points over the same period, scoring seven while conceding three, with the away side in such good form and scoring aplenty, we’re taking them to Win here.
