Wednesday 8pm: Napoli v Liverpool
TV: BT Sport 2

The Draw

Liverpool have endured a difficult start to the season to say the least. Jurgen Klopp’s side have taken just nine points from a possible 18 at the start of the season, winning just two out of six games.

The Reds find themselves in a moderately difficult Champions League group and start with arguably the most difficult game of the lot. This is the third time that Liverpool have been drawn alongside Napoli in the Champions League group stages since 2018 and they have never had things their own way.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

Liverpool have won just one of those four meetings, relying on late heroics from Alisson to ensure that they clung on for a narrow 1-0 in December 2018. They have lost on both trips to Naples and find themselves up against a Napoli side that has made an impressive start in Serie A.

The Italian side have taken 11 points from their opening five games and sit two points off table toppers Atalanta. However, they stuttered to a disappointing draw against Lecce in their most recent home fixture and may be forced to settle for another Draw against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Victor Osimhen to Score Anytime

It is unsurprising that Victor Osimhen was linked with a late-summer move to Manchester United for a fee north of £100 million. The Nigerian forward is one of the top young strikers in Europe at present and has scored at a relatively impressive rate of almost one goal in every two games for Napoli.

Osimhen scored in each of Napoli’s opening two games of the season but has failed to score in his last three appearances. However, he’s attempted 25 shots in his five appearances this season, amassing 4.58 expected goals. He is clearly getting in the right positions but failing to take his chances.

He is almost certain to get more opportunities against an uncharacteristically fragile Liverpool defence that has been coughing up chances in almost every game this season. Osimhen to Score Anytime is a nice price.

Darwin Nunez to Score Anytime

It has not dream start to life at Anfield for Liverpool’s new marquee signing. Darwin Nunez arrived at Liverpool with immense pressure on his shoulders given Sadio Mane’s departure and the inevitable comparisons that would be drawn between his performances and those of Erling Haaland.

It is fair to say that he has not dealt with that pressure very well. Nunez made an impact on his Premier League debut against Fulham, scoring one and assisting another, but a red card on his home debut a week later halted any early-season progress in its tracks.

He made a rather lukewarm return in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday, although he did fire one impressive effort that Jordan Pickford tipped onto the crossbar. Despite all the memes, Nunez remains a very good player and may flourish in Europe.

He managed six goals in 10 appearances in the Champions League for Benfica last season and can make his mark for Liverpool in the competition this year. It’s Nunez to Score Anytime next.

Mo Salah to Have 2 or More Shots on Target

Like Nunez, Mo Salah has endured a very underwhelming start to the season. In reality, Salah has been struggling for form since returning from the African Cup of Nations at the beginning of the year.

Salah’s goals may have dried up, but that is not for want of trying. The Egyptian forward has attempted 17 shots in his six appearances this season – more than any other Liverpool player.

Despite struggling for form, he still came closest to snatching a winner in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday as his late strike was tipped agonisingly onto the post. Salah will never be shy of a shot on goal and his poor goal-scoring return will only inspire him to take on more shots on Wednesday night. We’re backing Salah to Have 2 or More Shots on Target here.
