Premier League Predictions: Mark Lawrenson’s verdict on every game this weekend

Come and have a go if you think you're smart enough.

Soccer soothsayer Mark Lawrenson returns to Paddy Power News for round four of his Premier League tipping competition – and there’s £/€50 on the line in his latest duel with a Paddy Power punter.

Every Premier League weekend we’re putting up £/€50 to anyone who can outsmart Lawro in predicting the outcome of all 10 games. If it’s not won we get a rollover.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

The rules are pretty simple: We’ll award one point for a correct result and three points for a correct score (max three points per game, there’s no four pointers here). Last week’s challenger and Manchester United fan Ronan from Dundalk had double delight as The Red Devils’ surprise win over Liverpool confirmed his 5-2 victory over Lawro and secured him the £/€50 bounty.

This week it’s Chelsea fan Geroge from Bournemouth who is going head-to-head with Lawro for the loot. Let’s get to it…

Southampton v Manchester United

Saturday 12.30pm, BT Sport

LAWRO: What a contrast, the way Manchester United played in the last game compared to the first two games, it’s amazing. The players that played on Monday told the manager that he can pick them every game now. Southampton got taken apart on the first day and then they’ve had some good results. United have set a benchmark now. Southampton 1-2 Man Utd.

GEORGE: Southampton 1-1 Man Utd

  • Correct Score: Southampton 0-1 Man Utd

Brentford v Everton

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: Brentford pulled it back to 2-2 against Fulham before they got done right at the end. Everton can’t buy a goal and they’re on about Anthony Gordon leaving. Until they find a striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is injured again, they’re in big trouble. Brentford 2-0 Everton.

GEORGE: Brentford 2-0 Everton

  • Correct Score: Brentford 1-1 Everton

Brighton v Leeds

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: Brighton have started like they finished last season but they still have this nagging problem which is scoring at home. You just wonder if they might be trying to sneak someone in before the window which they need up front. Leeds should have nine points but they couldn’t see it out against Southampton. I’ll go for a draw as Brighton seem to draw most home games. Brighton 1-1 Leeds.

GEORGE: Brighton 2-1 Leeds

  • Correct Score: Brighton 1-0 Leeds

Chelsea v Leicester

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: The whole season’s been strange with Chelsea, especially last week with the team flying and the coaches getting the bus. There wasn’t a great resilience against Leeds and they were as poor there as they were good against Spurs. Are the good Chelsea or the poor Chelsea going to turn up? Leicester, well that’s just a different story. No idea what’s going on there. Chelsea 2-0 Leicester.

GEORGE: Chelsea 1-1 Leicester

  • Correct Score: Chelsea 2-1 Leicester

Liverpool v AFC Bournemouth

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: I’ve said all season that Liverpool have been sluggish and they still are. Teams look like they’ve worked out how to play against them but it’s Bournemouth and you’re always going to create chances against them. I think this is one that Scott Parker will write off. Liverpool 2-0 Bournemouth.

GEORGE: Liverpool 2-0 Bournemouth

  • Correct Score: Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth

Manchester City v Crystal Palace

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: Palace won this game last year and played really well. They deserved to win against Villa, obviously there were one or two VAR incidents and whatever. The great thing about them is that they play on the front foot, they won’t be coming here to say, ‘Let’s just keep the score down.’ But it’s City isn’t it so I expect them to win handsomely. Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace.

GEORGE: Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace

  • Correct Score: Man City 4-2 Crystal Palace

Arsenal v Fulham

Saturday 5.30pm

LAWRO: In fairness to Fulham they really should have seven points, shouldn’t they, because they missed that penalty at Wolves. But Arsenal are flying. It’s early days and they could still disappear off the radar but it looks a little bit different this time. Arsenal 2-1 Fulham.

GEORGE: Arsenal 3-1 Fulham

  • Correct Score: Arsenal 2-1 Fulham

Aston Villa v West Ham

Sunday 2pm

LAWRO: West Ham still have no points and they still haven’t scored. You don’t look at them and think in 10 games they’re going to be in this situation. Villa are just a little bit strange, especially away from home. They’re very, very streaky but I know this is a home game. Because they both need to win I’ll go for the draw. Aston Villa 1-1 West Ham.

GEORGE: Aston Villa 1-2 West Ham

  • Correct Score: Aston Villa 0-1 West Ham

Wolves v Newcastle

Sunday 2pm, Sky Sports

LAWRO: Newcastle are about to splash the cash in a big way for the first time after being relatively sensible in the market. I think Newcastle are looking at this league and are thinking that they’ve got a real chance of breaking the top 10. I just don’t see where Wolves’ goals are coming from. Wolves 1-2 Newcastle.

GEORGE: Wolves 0-2 Newcastle

  • Correct Score: Wolves 1-1 Newcastle

Nottingham Forest v Tottenham

Sunday 4.30pm, Sky Sports

LAWRO: Forest have started well and got a good point at Everton, regardless of the fact it was Everton! You just think this is a real big test for them, certainly the biggest test so far. I saw Forest’s opening game of the season which they did well to win 1-0 but they gave away lots of opportunities. If they give them up again against Tottenham I think they’ll get punished. Nottingham Forest 0-3 Tottenham.

GEORGE: Nottingham Forest 0-3 Tottenham

  • Correct Score: Nottingham Forest 0-2 Tottenham

WEEK 4 RESULTS

It’s a first win of the season for Lawro! The Liverpool legend scored eight points from one correct score (Arsenal 2-1 Fulham) and five correct results. This week’s challenger, George, didn’t get any correct scores, but did manage six points from guessing the correct results.
