Premier League Predictions: Mark Lawrenson’s punchy picks for EVERY game this weekend

Next, please!

Soccer soothsayer Mark Lawrenson returns to Paddy Power News for round three of his new Premier League tipping competition – and there’s £/€50 on the line in his latest duel with a Paddy Power punter.

Every Premier League weekend we’re putting up £/€50 to anyone who can outsmart Lawro in predicting the outcome of all 10 games. If it’s not won we get a rollover.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

The rules are pretty simple: We’ll award 1 point for a correct result and 3 points for a correct score. Last week’s challenger Tom from Doncaster drew 7-7 with the Premier League Pythagoras, but landed the loot after getting more correct scores than Lawro. Fair play, Tom.

This week it’s brave Manchester United fan Ronan Connolly from Dundalk who’s putting his neck on the line, ready to take pelters and brickbats if things to awry, just like his beloved, if completely shambolic, Red Devils.

It’s fitting then to have a United v Liverpool clash with the old foes set to meet in a one-sided looking match on Monday. Will it come down to the final game just like last week? Lets get the lads’ verdicts.

Tottenham v Wolves

Saturday 12.30pm, BT Sport

LAWRO: That late draw against Chelsea for Spurs will feel like a win with everything than went on. Wolves are struggling to score and got away with it against Fulham with Aleksandar Mitrovic missing a late penalty. Tottenham 2-0 Wolves.

RONAN: Tottenham 3-1 Wolves

  • Result: Tottenham 1-0 Wolves

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: I was at Anfield on Monday night to see Crystal Palace play Liverpool and I thought Palace were good, really good. In all honesty they could actually have pinched it. From their point of view it was a good result. Villa beat Everton 2-1 didn’t they? The interesting thing for Villa is that the two up front works at home but perhaps not away. Crystal Palace 1-1 Aston Villa.

RONAN: Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa

  • Result: Crystal Palace 3-1 Aston Villa

Everton v Nottingham Forest

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: Everton are still without a striker. I don’t know how you can play football without a striker unless you have the quality of Manchester City. Forest hung on at the weekend and got the three points at home against West Ham – just. I’m not sure where Everton are going to get their goals from but I am backing them to win. Everton 2-1 Nottingham Forest.

RONAN: Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest

  • Result: Everton 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Fulham v Brentford

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: As with Tottenham v Chelsea last week, these kind of fixtures you want when you’ve got at least 10 games under your belt. Fulham got a point against Wolves that could and should have been three because of the missed penalty. Brentford were outstanding against Manchester United. They’re very honest and have a great manager. Fulham 1-2 Brentford.

RONAN: Fulham 1-1 Brentford

  • Result: Fulham 3-2 Brentford

Leicester v Southampton

Saturday 3pm

LAWRO: Southampton produced a really good comeback against Leeds, one or two of the players they brough on changed the game and they were unfortunate not to snatch it late on. I’ll go for Leicester as  one thing they are not struggling with is scoring goals. Leicester 2-0 Southampton.

RONAN: Leicester 1-0 Southampton

  • Result: Leicester 1-2 Southampton

Bournemouth v Arsenal

Saturday 5.30pm, Sky Sports

LAWRO: Scott Parker admitted that last weekend was a free hit for them playing Manchester City away. They’ve done very little in the market, though, which remains a worry. Arsenal are good at the moment, they’re better in attack than defence but I’m going to go for an Arsenal Win. Bournemouth 0-2 Arsenal.

RONAN: Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal

  • Result: Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal

Leeds v Chelsea

Sunday 2pm, Sky Sports

LAWRO: Leeds have started well, they’ve got four points. It’s a bit of a worry being 2-0 up at home to Southampton and letting them get a draw, though. I thought Chelsea deserved to beat Tottenham. They did a lot of things very well but were also pegged back. I just think Chelsea will sit in and pick Leeds off. Leeds 0-2 Chelsea.

RONAN: Leeds 2-3 Chelsea

  • Result: Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

West Ham v Brighton

Sunday 2pm

LAWRO: West Ham are yet to get a point yet while Brighton have started this season the same as last with some very good results and also missing loads of chances. West Ham need to win. West Ham 2-1 Brighton.

RONAN: West Ham 1-1 Brighton

  • Result: West Ham 0-2 Brighton

Newcastle v Manchester City

Sunday 4.30pm, Sky Sports

LAWRO: Newcastle have started well and they have Nick Pope to thank got their point last week but City, at the moment, just look imperious, don’t they? It will be interesting to see how Newcastle set up, there’s no doubt they’ve improved and are improving but I expect City to win this. Newcastle 0-2 Manchester City.

RONAN: Newcastle 1-4 Manchester City

  • Result: Newcastle 3-3 Man City

Manchester United v Liverpool

Monday 8pm, Sky Sports

LAWRO: Erik ten Hag’s going to have to start to build form the back because they’re so easy to play and score against that he needs to have a look and he might have to change his system. If they can sort the defence they’ll have something to work on but they’re just in a mess.

Liverpool looked a bit sluggish again on Monday night and Darwin Nunez took the bait and didn’t help the cause getting sent off against Palace. I don’t see a 5-0 like last season. Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool.

RONAN: Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool

  • Result: Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

Week 3 results

Ronan went into Saturday night’s game 2-1 up from the earlier games but banged in a maximum 3 points by predicting a 3-0 win for the Gunners away to Bournemouth.

Lawro had the result right at least, but had no such luck for Sunday’s 2pm kick-offs, with no points scored by either party with Leeds and Brighton both winning. That continued into the late game as Newcastle played out a 3-3 thriller against Man City, leaving Lawro trailing 5-2 going into the final game of the weekend on Monday night.

Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool came as a surprise to both our tipsters, with both expecting Jurgen Klopp’s side to get the job done. It means out punter Ronan is £/€50 better off!
