NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

While this game looks to be a very difficult one to call when we look at prices, I do feel confident in picking a Germany win here. They’ve won all their games so far without conceding a single goal, have a really strong midfield and a quick forward line, with a very in form striker in Alexandra Popp. They’ve looked superb going forward, scoring 11 goals with Popp grabbing 4 of them.

Wednesday 8pm: Germany v France
Euro 2022 semi final
Stadium MK
TV: BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Website

Germany to qualify

While France’s results have been solid, they really are missing star striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto. With Katoto on the pitch, France scored six goals, five in the opener v Italy and once before she went off injured against Belgium.

Without her, they are playing a winger up front and have only scored three goals in three games, one of which was a penalty in extra time against The Netherlands. I struggle to see where the goals will come from for France, so I’m quite confident here of Germany advancing to the final to face England.

Wendie Renard To Have 2 or More Shots

I never expected to say this, but a centre back leads the way for shots in the tournament. Yes, Wendie Renard has shot 16 times in the tournament, two more than the next closest Alex Popp.

It makes sense as France aim for her with every set piece and, as she is a few inches taller than every player on the pitch, she generally gets her head on it. It might usually be a big ask for a centre back like Wendie Renard to have 2 or More Shots in a game, but this seems quite manageable considering she has averaged 4 per game in this tournament.

Alex Popp To Have 1 or More Shots On Target

Popp has been superb in this tournament, after not starting the opener due to Lea Schuller’s amazing season, she had to wait her turn to make her impact. We thought Schuller picking up Covid was a big blow at the time for Germany, but Popp has filled her boots to a level no one could have expected.

She has started the last three games, scoring in each game to take her tournament tally to four goals. She is by far Germany’s biggest threat and can score all kinds of goals with her physical presence and technical ability. She should be a handful for those French defenders, so Popp To Have 1 or More Shots On Target shouldn’t be a problem for her in this one.

Over 11.5 Corners

Corners have been very common in both France and Germany’s games. Both sides have averaged over seven corners per game, and with both sides being quite dangerous from corners, winning them is a tactic which suits both. They both attack wide areas with their wingers, meaning corners rack up from blocked crosses, so Over 11.5 Corners looks a good angle for me here.
