NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

For Thursday’s Football Acca we’re keeping things close to home and hunting for value in the fixtures involving the teams from Scotland, Wales and Ireland that are in action in the Europa Conference League Qualification matches. We’ve five games to get stuck into here so let’s have a look at where we’ve turned up some value in the markets.

6pm: Basel v Crusaders – Both Teams to Score

Northern Irish side Crusaders face the toughest test of all the teams in our acca here against Swiss Super League runners-up FC Basel and the odds for a home win certainly reflect just how difficult a task Stephen Baxter’s Hatchetmen have at hand. The Swiss side began their league campaign last weekend with a disappointing away draw to Winterthur but won all three of their pre-season friendlies pretty easily.

Looking at their five most recent competitive games, Bebbi’s results aren’t great with just one win over their last five drawing the other four. At the St. Jakob-Park they’ve won two of their last five competitive fixtures played there, drawing two and losing one. Crusaders have won just one of their last five games, including one friendly, drawing one (winning it in Extra Time) and losing three. Away from home they’ve been decent though, winning three, drawing one (winning it in ET) and losing one where they scored a total of 13 and conceded five.

Basel’s defence is a bit wobbly on home turf, it must be said, having conceded in six of their last eight competitive games played there and while the gulf in quality between the squads should be evident here over the 90 minutes the visitors have been in ripe goal-scoring form and should draw some blood here. We’re very much going against the crowd here but value is value and the price on Both Teams to Score is screaming at me here.

7.30pm: Spartak Trnava v Newtown – Newtown Under 0.5 Goals

TV: 247.tv

Slovakian side Spartak Trnava got their season off to a win last weekend following six pre-season friendlies which saw them winning just one, drawing four and losing one. Over their last five competitive games they’ve won three, drawn one (winning it in ET) and lost one while on home soil they’ve won four of their last five games, drawing the other, scoring seven while conceding none.

Newtown took Icelandic side HB to penalties in the last round of qualifiers and have only played one other game since their Premier League season finished in April, a 0-0 friendly draw with Northern Ireland’s Linfield. Over their last five away games the Robins have failed to score in three of them and against a Trnava side who are resolute at the back we’re backing them to draw a blank in Slovakia with Newtown Under 0.5 Goals.

7.45pm: Motherwell v Sligo Rovers – Over 2.5 Goals

Motherwell are also short-odds favourites here to beat the visiting side. Both are in pretty decent form with the hosts winning three of their last five (including one friendly) and losing the other two. Rovers were in action in the previous round of the competition, beating Wales’ Bala Town on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw. The visitors have won two, drawn two (winning one on pens) and lost one of their five most recent fixtures.

The Steelmen have won two, drawn one and lost one over their last five fixtures at Fir Park, scoring a very respectable nine goals while conceding nine too. Sligo’s away form isn’t great with just one win over their last five on their travels, drawing two and losing two but scored five over those five games while conceding seven. With both teams in good goal-scoring form then we have to look at goals and Over 2.5 Goals represents some great value when we consider that Overs has landed in seven of their last 10 combined home/away games.

7.45pm: St Patrick’s Athletic v Mura – Over 2.5 Goals

Slovenian side Mura were 4-2 aggregate winners in the previous round of the competition but got their domestic season off to a 2-0 away loss over the weekend. St Pat’s are midseason with 24 league games under their belts and are enjoying strong form at Richmond Park, winning three of their last five played there, drawing one and losing one, scoring 10 and conceding four.

Mura played six pre-season friendlies prior to their first Conference League game where they won just two, drawing one and losing three. Looking at their last five competitive games they’ve won two, drawn two and lost two while on their travels, competitively have won two, drawn one and lost two. There’s goals in this side though, they scored 10 over those five away games and conceded 10 as well. With both teams in ripe goal-scoring form we have to back Over 2.5 Goals here.

8.30pm: Vikingur v The New Saints – Both Teams to Score

Both of these sides were eliminated from the previous round of Champions League qualifiers with the hosts losing 5-6 to Malmo with TNS going out 2-1 to Linfield. Vikingur are in decent shape with three wins, one draw and one loss over their five most recent fixtures and share the same record at home, scoring a total of 12 while conceding 10.

The Saints have won three and lost two of their five most previous fixtures, three of which were friendlies and looking at competitive games only have won four and lost one. Away from home, in competitive games, they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring nine and conceding six. With both teams scoring for fun of late, and conceding quite a few as well, the obvious choice here is in backing Both Teams To Score.
