Our tipster Colin Harvey looks to cool off in the League Cup.

It’s 3pm on a lovely warm Saturday afternoon and that means it’s time to dive straight into the deep end of the shimmering turquoise pool of tranquility that is the Scottish League Cup. Some of the teams involved will be playing their third match in the ever-so-slightly bonkers group format while it’s matchday two for others.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

Look, it’s too convoluted to go into for the uninitiated. All that really matters is that we’ve got some competitive games on at 3pm on a Saturday and, while the world burns, we can enjoy some fitba with a little four-fold acca involving the games with perhaps the most riding on them.

Cove Rangers v Livingston – Over 2.5 Goals

First up it’s Group G action in the shape of Cove Rangers v Livingston. The Premiership side were given a big scare by League Two outfit Albion Rovers on gameday one and followed up that 3-2 win with a 2-1 loss to Inverness Caledonian Thistle last time out.

Rangers pipped Rovers 2-1 in their only game of the competition so far and The Championship side might be fancying their chances of mixing it with the top-flight boys here. In the three games these two have played so far Over 2.5 Goals has clicked and that feels a good play once again.

Montrose v Kilmarnock – Kilmarnock Win & BTTS

Group B action here with Montrose v Kilmarnock. It’s 3rd hosting 2nd with Killie having four points from their two games and the League One side winning their solitary game against Highland League side Fraserburgh.

The Premiership side also beat Fraserburgh before drawing with Championship outfit Partick Thistle. Both teams have netted in all three games involving these two so far and at the price we can back the top-flight to win so I’ll take on Kilmarnock to Win and Both Teams to Score.

Raith v Stirling – Raith to Win and Over 2.5 Goals

Raith Rovers clobbered League One Peterhead 6-0 in their opening game in this competiton while Stirling had a rather-more modest 2-1 win at Dumbarton. It means both are likely to be battling it out for 2nd with Aberdeen already on two wins from two but the odds are stacked against the away side who hail from League Two.

Understandably Raith are massive favourites to prevail here and you would expect them to do so given how they hit the ground running last weekend. I’m not expecting another 6-0 but I think we can back Raith to Win and Over 2.5 Goals in the game as the latter part has clicked in both sides’ matches in this competition to date.

Ross County v Dunfermline – Both Teams to Score

Last but not least it’s Ross County v Dunfermline in Group C. Our visitors here are top with two wins from two while The Staggies have two points (courtesy of a penalty shootout win) after a 1-1 draw with Highland League side Buckie Thistle who Dunfermline pumped 5-0 on Tuesday.

That’s a worrying sign for our Premiership hosts who should be wary of an upset aginst their League One opponents. Ross County are too short to back and I’ll have a punt on them to be breached by a lower-tier side while netting themselves once again and Both Teams To Score.
