Both Sweden and Netherlands will fancy their chances of going all the way at Euro 2022. Ranked 2nd and 4th in the world respectively, Sweden will be looking to make up for the upset of their shock defeat to Canada on penalties in the 2020 Olympic finals and Netherlands will be looking to build on their 2019 World Cup final defeat to the USA.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

With 10 goals, Vivianne Miedema was the top scorer at the Olympics in 2020 and with Fridolina Rolfo, Stina Blackstenhuis and Magdalena Eriksson being some of the best players in their respective positions, both teams will be expecting to get out of this group and do well in the tournament overall.

Both Teams to Score

In the last 10 games, Sweden have averaged 3.3 goals per game (including a 15-0 drubbing of Georgia along the way) which is exceptionally high. Even excluding this, they average two goals a game which is impressive.

The Netherlands have an equally impressive record with 3.7 goals a game in their last 10. This reduces to a still impressive 2.1 if you exclude the home and away fixtures against Cyprus where they scored a combined 20 goals. Sweden have an impressive defensive record with only four conceded in the last 10.

Sherida Spitse to Score or Assist

With eight goals and five assists in Euro qualification, Sherida Spitse might not have the notoriety of Vivianne Miedema but is a constant in this Dutch side and is their assigned penalty taker. She missed the 2020 Olympics and could have been the piece they were missing to go all the way.

With over 200 caps and having led the team out and scored a free kick in their 2017 Euro final success, she will certainly not be overawed by the occasion.

Sweden to win

At 7/1 to win the tournament completely, Sweden are a very good bet to go all the way. They were also knocked out by the Netherlands in the quarters of the 2017 Championships where the Dutch went on to win as hosts. Combining this with their only major honour being as far back as 1984 in the Euros and their 2020 Olympics let down, they’ll be motivated more than most to win their opening game.

Olivia Schough 1+ Shots On Target

Olivia Schough was part of the reason the Irish ladies’ team were unable to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the team’s history when she provided the assist for Kosovare Asllanni’s goal in the 1-1 draw played out in World Cup qualifying earlier this year. With nine goals and six assists for Rosengard this season in the Damallsvenskan, she will be a threat throughout the tournament and a good addition to this Bet Builder.
