Euro 2022 favourites Spain get their campaign underway on Friday evening against the expected Group B whipping girls Finland. You’ll struggle to find a set of W-D-W odds more contrasting than this with the Finns around 50s to get the win.
WHAT: UEFA Euro 2020 – Group B: Spain v Finland WHEN: Friday, July 8: 5pm STADIUM: Milton Keynes – Stadium: MK HOW TO WATCH: BB2, iPlayer
You may be ahead of me here, but value might be a little tricky to come by in this one. Nevertheless I’ll try to find a winning short-priced punt, value play and long shot as Spain look to lay down a huge marker. So, look away Finland fans, here’s your best bets for Friday’s early Euro 2022 game.
Despite the odds, I think this might be a lot closer than many, including Paddy’s traders, are expecting. Spain’s star-studded line up have not lost for 23 games, winning 19 of those. They’ve drawn four of their last seven and five of their last six have seen Under 3.5 Goals.
Admittedly those were all against better sides than Finland, but as we saw in the England v Austria opener, the games on grass in this tournament could well be closer than they appear on paper. In these early stages I think it will pay to back tighter games and the price on Under 3.5 Goals looks pretty appealing.
Spain should win here though, there’s no doubt about that. If we compare some of Finland’s recent results against the better sides on the planet there’s hope that they can keep the score respectable. They only lost 2-0 to 3rd favourites Netherlands last time out and managed a 0-0 with Brazil recently.
Spain have been focusing on keeping it tight against the better sides recently and I’m wagering that they’ll be in that mindset coming here knowing that tougher tests are to come. With that 1-0 England win still fresh in the memory, there may be some value in Spain to Win and Under 2.5 Goals.
With one side dominating from start to finish the price in the #WhatOddsPaddy market punt, 1+ Goals In Each Half, 6+ Corners In Each Half & 1+ Cards In Each Half, looks attractive. If this isn’t as tight as I’m expecting this to be then it becomes even more appealing.
It’s not hard to imagine Spain netting in both halves, the element that might cause concern is the volume of corners required. However, with the possession they’re likely to have they could certainly rack them up. With all that possession we’ll have a live chance of a yellow in each half as well. A lot of moving parts with this one but I think this is out best bet at around double-figure prices.
