Switzerland are ranked 20th in the world and 12th in Europe. They’re not in the best form, having not won a game this year (at the time of writing). They have several talented players (Ana Maria Crnogorcevic, who plays for Barcelona and Ramona Bachmann who is on the books at PSG) but would be considered the 3rd best team in their group behind Sweden and Netherlands.
Our trader Dylan Walsh takes you through what else to expect from the Swiss.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Manager – Nils Nielsen
Nils Nielsen took over as manager in 2018. Previously he was manager of the Danish women’s team and led them to 2nd place at Euro 2017 and finished second as UEFA Women’s best coach in the same year. He had a stint as the Chinese women’s U20s coach after Denmark but they couldn’t get past the group stage at the 2018 U20 World Cup.
Captain – Lia Walti
Lia Walti was named captain in 2019. She’s a defensive midfielder for Arsenal where she won the Women’s Super League in her first year and finished runner up in the FA Cup two years in a row. She was also named in the PFA Team of the Year in that season. She played the third-most passes in the WSL last season and has a passing accuracy of 84% – the fourth-highest in the division.
Star Player – Ana Maria Crnogorcevic
Ana Maria Crnogorcevic is definitely Switzerland’s top attacking talent. She scored the winning penalty in their playoff against the Czech Republic. Crnogorcevic has scored six goals and has two assists in her last 10 internationals and won the Champions League with both Frankfurt in 2015 and Barcelona in 2021.

Best Bet of Tournament – Ana Maria Crnogorcevic Top Goalscorer
The 31-year-old has over 60 goals for her country since her 2009 debut, and weighs in as an outside chance for top goalscorer. But if Switzerland upset the odds on their group and progress at the expense of either Netherlands or Sweden, then star player Crnogorcevic will have a big part to play.
