Portugal are ranked 30th in the world and 19th in Europe. They hosted the Algarve Cup in 2022 where they finished bottom out of the four teams who participated. They only qualified after Russia was disqualified from UEFA competition.
They have won only one game at an international tournament in their history when they qualified for the Euros in 2017. They usually play a 4-3-3 but have recently started employed wing backs in a 4-3-1-2 formation (most notably in the Algarve Cup against Sweden who they are playing in the group stage).

Manager – Francisco Neto
Francisco Neto took over as manager in 2014 and led the team to two tournaments despite them not having qualified for any previously. He recently tested positive for coronavirus so hasn’t been around for team preparations. Portugal also only got qualification in May so the lead up has been far from ideal.
Captain – Ana Borges
Ana Borges won the WSL and Women’s FA Cup during her time in England with Chelsea but now plays for Sporting Lisbon where she was voted Player of the Season in 2018. She scored on her international debut and has now accumulated more than 100 caps.
Star Player – Diana Silva
Diana Silva was one of the first people included when Sporting decided to create a women’s team after 21 years without one. She played for Sporting CP for six years before signing for Aston Villa at the start of the 2021/22 season but was a disappointment in her time there, where she only scored one goal in 15 appearances before returning to Sporting in the summer.

Best Bet of Tournament – Portugal to get out of Group C
Stranger things have happened. It all relies on Portugal getting off to a good start against the Swiss in their first game. Failing to win in that one will leave them needing to beat at least of one the Netherlands or Sweden to stand any chance of progressing.
