Denmark’s footballing DNA cannot be overlooked in this tournament, and although they have been drawn in the group of death with Spain and Germany, they still have every chance of qualifying.
The Danes have reached the semi-finals of the Euros six times, and reached the final in 2017, losing to the Netherlands. They won nine of 10 games in qualifying for the tournament, and have won eight from eight so far in their World Cup qualifiers.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Their squad is filled with stars from top sides such as Real Madrid, Lyon, Chelsea and Arsenal, and the return on Nadia Nadim will be crucial to their attacking prowess in this tournament.
And our footy trader Sam Kingston has been taking a closer look at what they will offer this summer.
Manager – Lars Sondergaard
Lars Sondergaard took over Denmark in December 2017 after the departure of Nils Nielsen, who brought them to the Euros final. He has wide coaching experience in men’s football, and has typically played with three defenders, although this side suits the 4-3-3 formation with the attacking options they have.
Captain – Pernille Harder
Pernille Harder is now Denmark’s leading all-time goalscorer, racking up 66 goals since her debut in 2009. The 29-year-old is the only player to have won the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award on two separate occasions, in 2018 and 2020. The Chelsea star also notched 11 goals this season for the Blues, and is without doubt Denmark’s most dangerous player.

Star Player – Lene Christensen
Of course Harder is the most dangerous outfield player, but the talent of goalkeeper Christensen cannot be overlooked. The 22-year-old was signed by Rosenborg in 2021, and only made her senior debut in December 2020. However, she excelled in a 0-0 draw against Italy to ensure Denmark’s qualification for the Euros, and has only conceded twice in eight World Cup qualifiers.
Best Bet of Tournament – Denmark to qualify from the group
Last time’s runners up undoubtedly have a very difficult group, and many will expect Spain and Germany to progress. But it largely hinges on the Danes’ first match, with Germany. If they can grab a victory in Brentford, then they will be well set to make it out the group – expect that first match to be a tight affair.
