England play their second of three warm-up friendlies ahead of UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 on Friday night. Sarina Wiegman’s side are looking to follow up their 3-0 win against Belgium last Thursday with another strong performance, albeit this time against tougher opposition.
Netherlands have a strong side, and are third favourites to win Euro 2022 in our outright betting market, behind favourites Spain, and hosts England. So, this match will be a great barometer for these two countries’ chances.
Ahead of the game we’ve got Sam Kingston, one of our team of expert traders, to come up with a Bet Builder with their four best bets as these two sides face off in Leeds. Let’s get his verdict…
England have been in a rich vein of form, unbeaten in their last 12 games under Wiegman. They faired well in the Arnold Clarke Cup, beating Germany and drawing with two of the world’s best sides in Spain and Canada. However, this will be a real test against a Dutch side who we would make favourites against England in a neutral stadium. Their front six is the same six that won the Euros in 2017, including two of the world’s best players in Lieke Martens and Vivianne Miedema. The Dutch themselves have only lost one of their last 16 games, and are a very difficult side to beat.
Women’s football can be quite high scoring, but generally when the top ranked sides play against each other, we see them cancel each other out. Here we have two sides who are very strong at the back and will look to focus on their defensive set up before the July 6th deadline.
The Barcelona star was involved in a side with a 100% win record in La Liga. Martens played 21 of the 30 games, scoring 17 goals and assisting 21 times. With Miedema being one of the world’s best finishers, it’s quite likely she will be involved in a goal if Netherlands do bag one.
It’s very likely this won’t be a feisty affair, with both sides’ main objective being to avoid injuries before the Euros gets underway. We’ve only seen two cards in the last four games the sides have played (two in England games, and none in Netherlands games), so it’s likely this will follow the same trend.
