Chelsea have confirmed that Romelu Lukaku will return to Inter Milan after a highly successful one-year loan spell which cost the Blues £90m.
The Stamford Bridge outfit announced the move in a heartfelt statement released on the club’s official website this morning, which read:
‘Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Romelu for his loyalty and service to the club up until around last October’.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
‘Images of Rom sulking in the dugout will live long in the memories of our supporters, as will his Sky Italia interview’.
Lukaku penned an emotional farewell to Chelsea fans in Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in which he hoped they understood his reasons for leaving West London.
‘This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my career but I am returning to my childhood club after leaving my childhood club to join my childhood club’.
The article was accompanied by a black and white image of the Belgian dabbing his tear ducts with wads of cash.
Meanwhile, former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has praised Chelsea’s signing of Lukaku as one of the best pieces of business in football transfer history.
‘It’s right up there with the time I loaned Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid for £120m’, Bartomeu told Paddy Power News.
‘But it will never compare to the time when a player I paid £145m for helped Bayern destroy Barca 8-2 and went on to win the Champions League with them’.
;Chelsea will be re-using teabags and having the players wash their own kit in no time if they keep doing this kind of business,’ he said approvingly.
In other transfer news, the 14th Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle has said he’s ‘very excited’ about the Magpies being linked with Pope.
Indeed, Bishop Robert Byrne believes Pope would entertain the St James’ Park masses.
‘Franco is used to performing in front of big crowds so the St James’ atmosphere wouldn’t intimidate him’, Byrne told Paddy Power News.
Asked what qualities the supreme pontiff would bring to the current Newcastle side, the Bishop said:
‘He can really get the crowd going and he produces some excellent crosses’.
