Wales play again in front of their home crowd at Cardiff on Wednesday night, just three days after booking their place at Qatar 2022 later this year. Rob Page’s men beat Ukraine 1-0 on Sunday to reach their first World Cup in 64 years.
They haven’t had too long to celebrate, with Wales hosting Netherlands in the ever-confusing UEFA Nations League. Page will likely make numerous changes to his line-up against Louis van Gaal’s high-flying side so it could be an open game. We’ve picked out three value bets for Wednesday night.
Wales v Ukraine was always going to be tense with a place at the World Cup on the line so we can chalk that off in terms of the Over 2.5 Goals market. There have been three or more goals in three of Wales’ five games prior to the Ukraine win, with the other two games in that period seeing Over 1.5 Goals land. Page will likely field a much different team to the one that beat Ukraine and they will likely be free flowing due to the lack of pressure following Sunday’s victory.
As for Netherlands, they’re flying under ex-Manchester United boss Van Gaal. They’ve won seven of their last eight games and Over 2.5 Goals has landed in five of those games. We’re expecting them to continue their goalscoring form so we like the look of Over 2.5 Goals on Wednesday.
As mentioned above, Netherlands have won seven of their last eight games, with the other result being a 1-1 draw against Germany in March. In that time, they’ve won 6-1, 6-0 and 4-2 – and they come into the Wales clash on the back of their 4-1 demolition of Belgium last Friday.
Van Gaal could make a couple of changes to his starting XI but whatever side he puts out will have more than enough to beat Wales’ second-string line up, who will have been enjoying their World Cup heroics since Sunday night. Netherlands to Win and Over 2.5 Goals is a shrewd selection for your betslip.
Memphis Depay is Netherlands’ main man under Van Gaal and the Barcelona forward netted twice in their Belgium win last week. The former United man usually starts up top alongside Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn, with the pair’s pace and directness making them a problem for any defence. Depay netted 12 La Liga goals for Barcelona this season, however, his best form came when playing for his country.
He’s bagged 14 goals in 11 appearances in their World Cup Qualifiers and Nations League fixtures. Oh, and he’s on penalties too. We’re confident of Depay scoring anytime but we’re being bold and getting on Depay to Score 2 Goals or More in Cardiff.
