Scotland will be hurting from their World Cup qualification exit last week. Steve Clarke’s boys were two games away from their first World Cup in 24 years but were ultimately outplayed, outrun and outclassed by an inspired Ukrainian side.

They must put that heartache behind them and kick-on with their Nations League performance potentially aiding them in qualifying for the next Euros.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

First up, they face an Armenia side fresh off the back of win over the Republic of Ireland but who are without star player Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

This our four-way Bet Builder for Wednesday’s clash…

Wednesday 8th June, 7.45pm: Scotland v Armenia
UEFA Nations League
TV: Premier Sports 1

Handicap: Scotland (-1)

Scotland have had a full week to get over the pain of losing to Ukraine in their World Cup play-off semi-final and will now be looking to get their Nations League campaign off to a winning start against Armenia on Wednesday.

The Scots were well and truly outclassed by Ukraine at Hampden Park last week in what was a sobering reality check for Steve Clarke’s side, but they should have no problems against a decidedly ordinary Armenian outfit.

Granted, the visitors did get their own Nations League campaign off to a winning start with a win against Ireland on Saturday, but that says a lot more about Ireland than it does about Armenia.

In a friendly prior to that Ireland victory, Armenia were thrashed 9-0 by Norway, while they suffered a 5-0 home defeat to North Macedonia in the latter stages of World Cup qualifying.

They are the 92nd-ranked side in the world for a reason and Scotland should have little trouble getting off to a winning start.

John McGinn to score anytime

John McGinn spurned a glorious chance to pull a goal back in Scotland’s defeat to Ukraine last week, but his goalscoring record has been generally decent on the international stage.

McGinn has scored five goals in 16 international appearances since the beginning of 2021, with four of those goals coming in home games.

The Aston Villa midfielder has scored 10 of his 12 goals for Scotland at Hampden Park and is good value to find the back of the net at home once again on Wednesday night.

Che Adams to score anytime

Che Adams scored four times in his first year as a Scotland player after switching allegiances from England, but the Southampton striker is yet to find the back of the net in three international appearances in 2022.

The Southampton man last scored in a 2-0 win over Denmark at Hampden Park in November and has only ever scored in comfortable Scotland wins to nil.

He has not scored in his last ten appearances for club and country, but a home game against a side that has conceded 18 goals in their last five games represents the perfect opportunity to break that duck and score his first international goal of the year.

David Turnbull anytime assist

David Turnbull has made just four appearances at international level since making his Scotland debut last year, but there is a good chance he will feature on Wednesday night against the weakest side in Group B1 on paper.

Turnbull enjoyed a respectable campaign in a title-winning Celtic side this season, registering five goals and five assists in just 18 league starts.

He also scored one and assisted two in the Hoops’ short-lived Europa League campaign.

Turnbull averaged 3.6 key passes per game in the league last season – the second-highest average of any Celtic player – and he can be the one to unlock the Armenian defence if given a chance on Wednesday night.
