Monday night sees the next round of Nations League match-ups taking place across Europe. The pick of the games comes from Split as Croatia host the current Nations League champions, France, in a repeat of the 2018 World Cup Final.

France ran out 4-2 winners on that occasion and something along similar lines would be a very welcome spectacle.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Elsewhere, Austria host Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark, Kazakhstan travel to Slovakia and Albania and Iceland square-off in Reykjavik.

We’ve crunched the numbers, scoured the form books and rustled up a four-fold accumulator for you to sink your teeth into. Let’s get cracking…

19:45 Croatia v France: Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 Goals

TV: Premier Sports 1

Both sides will be looking to get back on the winning trail after falling to surprise defeats in their Nations League openers.

Croatia were swept aside on their own turf by Austria, losing 3-0 to a team placed well below them in the FIFA world rankings who failed to qualify for Qatar. France, meanwhile, succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat to Denmark at the Stade de France.

For Didier Deschamps’ side, that was their first defeat in 90 minutes for 21 matches, with their only loss since November 2020 coming against Switzerland on penalties.

Croatia’s last eight matches have seen a total of 27 goals and a rate of more than 3.3 per game with Over 2.5 goals landing in six of those.

It’s been a similar story with Les Bleus, with their last eight producing a total of 31 goals at almost 4.0 per game while Over 2.5 goals has landed in six of those.

It’s fair to say that the goals have been flying in of late when these sides are involved and with both looking to click back into gear after a stuttering start, we think it could be more of the same on Tuesday. Both Teams to score and Over 2.5 goals is catching our eye.

19:45 Austria v Denmark: Denmark to Win

TV: Box Nation

Austria and Denmark go head-to-head at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna looking to kick on from their impressive opening round wins.

However, the home side have been inconsistent of late, to say the least, failing to reach Qatar after drawing with Scotland and losing to Wales before thumping Croatia.

They’ve won five of their last 10 fixtures in all competitions, losing four and drawing the other. Perhaps more concerning for them is that they’ve only managed back-to-back wins once in their last 20 matches.

A good omen, then, for Denmark who comfortably topped their World Cup qualifying group, winning nine of out 10 matches and keeping eight clean sheets in the process. These two sides were in the same qualifying group, with Denmark running out winners on both occasions with an aggregate score of 5-0.

That included a 4-0 away win on this ground and we’re expecting a similar story again this time around. Denmark to win is the selection here.

19:45 Slovakia v Kazakhstan: Under 2.5 Goals

TV: Premier Player

Both sides made positive starts in their opening Nations League fixtures. The hosts battled to a 1-0 win over Belarus while Kazakhstan saw off Azerbaijan with a 2-0 victory.

Those wins would have been welcome confidence boosts after both failed to make an impact in their respective World Cup qualifying groups. Slovakia mustered just three wins in their 10 group games while their five draws was the second most of any team.

Kazakhstan, meanwhile, were one of six teams not to win a match, finishing rock-bottom of their group, scoring just five goals and conceding 20 in the process. Goals may prove a rarity in this one. Of the last 10 matches involving Slovakia, under 2.5 goals have landed in seven and of their last 32 matches in all competitions, they’ve registered more than two goals on just one occasion.

It’s a similar tale with Kazakhstan, who have scored more than twice in just one of their last 21 encounters. This doesn’t have the makings of a classic then, and while we’re quite confident in Slovakia’s ability to take the spoils, their odds are particularly short and we see far more value in the goals market. We’re going for under 2.5 goals

19:45 Iceland v Albania: Half-time: The Draw

TV: Premier Player

The final leg of this accumulator comes from Group 2 in League B which was the group Russia were due to compete in. They’ve been barred from participating so will be automatically relegated once the round robin is completed, giving everyone else in the group some sense of security.

That will be welcome news for these two sides. Albania travel to Iceland with the hosts in the midst of a dreary run of form. They had a miserable World Cup qualifying campaign, finishing 5th in their group, winning just two of their 10 matches and just one of their last 13 in all competitions.

Albania, on the other hand, had an impressive qualifying campaign, winning six matches and missing out on a play-off place by just two points. They can be proud of that considering their group included England, Poland and the always tricky Hungary.

They have been slow starters of late, however. 10 of their last 12 goals have come in the second half while in their last six matches they haven’t found the net before the 73rd minute.

Of Iceland’s last five, they’ve found themselves level at half-time on three occasions, with the two exceptions being five-goal drubbings by Spain and South Korea.

Given Iceland’s recent struggles and Albania’s tendency to kick on in the second 45 minutes, we think a half-time bet could be well worth a punt here. The match to be level at half-time is our bet in this one.
