The UEFA Nations League is back with a bang on Thursday night with the biggest match of the night being those old Iberian rivals, Spain and Portugal, going head-to-head. In the same League A group, Czech Republic will face off against Switzerland at home.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

In League B, an in-form Serbia host Erling Haaland’s Norway in Belgrade and finally Ian Baraclough’s Northern Ireland roll out the red carpet for Gus Poyet’s Greece at Windsor Park. Let’s get to it then and delve deep into the markets to find some value picks.

19:45 Czech Republic vs Switzerland: Both Teams To Score

TV: Box Nation

While the Czech’s form might lead you to think they’d be favourites, they haven’t been playing teams quite as good as the standard of this group of late. With Spain and Portugal making up the other teams in the Group 2, the hosts are favourites to finish bottom of the pile. Of their five most previous games they’ve won three and drawn two (losing one in ET) while on home form are unbeaten over their last five, winning three and drawing two.

Switzerland have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five fixtures and over their five most recent away matches (not including last year’s Euros) have won two, drawn two and lost one. Both sides have been in robust goal-scoring form with the hosts scoring 12 over their last five and the Swiss 11 over their five. With stats like that we have to go with a Both Teams to Score bet here.

19:45 Spain vs Portugal: Both Teams to Score

TV: Premier Sports 2

It’s rare enough to see Spain priced about Evens when playing on home soil but such is the threat posed by Fernando Santos’ Portugal here. The hosts are in strong form, winning four of their last five encounters, scoring 10 and conceding just three while on home soil share the same stats regarding results, scoring 13 and conceding three.

Portugal have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five, sharing the same record over their last five fixtures on the road netting nine and conceding just two.

The sides have met three times since 2018 with all three ending level, two of them scoreless and one ending 3-3 where Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick.

The market isn’t expecting many this time with Unders at short odds. However, both have scored at least two in three of their last five respective home/away fixtures so we could well see a winner. With the amount of talent in both squads it’s hard not to see both scoring but will we see a winner? It’s too close to call for us and there’s no value in risking a bet. Both Teams to Score has to be the logical choice here.

19:45 Serbia vs Norway: Serbia to win and Both Teams to Score

TV: Premier Player

Serbia are in mighty form of late, winning seven of their last 10 fixtures, drawing one and losing two. Norway, on the other hand, have won just five of their last 10, drawing three and losing two. As good as Erling Haaland is for club and country one swallow does not a summer make and, as we’ve seen with Poland over recent seasons, one star striker can’t carry a whole team.

The Serbs are unbeaten over their last seven played on home soil, winning five and drawing two, scoring 14 and conceding five over their last five. The Norwegians have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last five away games, scoring seven and conceding three. With those records we should see both teams scoring but Serbia’s form is hard to argue with so we’re backing them to take the three points here. Serbia to win and Both Teams To Score is the bet.

19:45 Northern Ireland vs Greece: Under 2.5 Goals

TV: Premier Sports 1

With Cyprus and Kosovo also in their pool, you’d have to give Northern Ireland a decent chance of finishing top of their group in League C. Yes, away to Kosovo is a tough one and both Greece and Cyprus are tricky enough but there are very few teams who are allowed to enjoy an away night at Windsor Park. The Ulstermen have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five fixtures while at home have won one, drawn three and lost one with the Greeks winning just one of their last five games, drawing one and losing three while on their away jaunts have won two, drawn one and lost two.

Northern Ireland have scored just one goal over their last five at home, with three games finishing 0-0 while Greece have scored just four over their recent trips away from home. This one has Under 2.5 Goals written all over it.
