Our tipster Colin Harvey has always loved the MLS.

Major League Soccer’s a bit like those friends you make on holiday. You say you’ll keep in touch but when you get back to the daily routine of the Premier League the connection tends to fall by the wayside.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

However, MLS is even more appealing this summer because of the World Cup taking place in the desert in the middle of the European season. If we ignore the artificial pitches, silly names, baseball stadiums and chants straight off the primary-school playground, there’s a lot to like.

And I’m not just saying that because there’s nothing else on. Honest. Whatever you think about MLS it’s here to stay so, with a long hot summer ahead, you might as well swot up. Here’s a dishy double for Sunday night/Monday morning’s games Stateside.

La Galaxy stadium

Sunday 11pm: LA Galaxy v Austin FC – Austin to Win

TV: Sky Sports Football

We kick off in the City of Angels where LA Galaxy tackle Austin FC. Austin are going well in their second season and are 2nd in the Western Conference after 13 games and sit three places higher than their far-glitzier opponents.

The team from Texas have won seven, drawn three and lost three while Galaxy have won six, drawn two and lost five so far. Both are in pretty shaky form coming into this. LA have won one of their last five – a 1-0 away win at the side they face again here, Austin. MLS, eh?

Austin have won two of their last five but five of their last eight going further back. That loss to LA Galaxy knocked them off their stride a little but they’ve done okay in their three games since with all of those being against three of MLS’ better sides.

That result has thrown a spanner into the works somewhat but I still think there’s value in backing Austin to Win as they get some instant revenge. They’ve got a decent-enough record on the road and have actually taken more points from away games than LA have at home this season.

Monday 2.30am: Seattle v Charlotte – Seattle Win & Under 2.5 Goals

We head up the West Coast to Seattle next for their match with Charlotte FC. The Sounders have been disappointing so far this season and are 12th in the Western Conference with 13 points from 11 games. This is Charlotte’s first MLS season and they’re 7th in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from 13.

Seattle are massive favourites to win here and that’s probably down to Charlotte’s shocking away haul of one point from six games played. Sounders aren’t sensational at home though by any means. They’ve taken six points from their four matches this year, the joint 2nd-worse record in the whole MLS, but they do have games to catch up on.

This is a tricky one because Charlotte are in a good place but their away form is so poor you can’t touch them while Seattle are way too short to back just to win. Instead I like the look of Seattle to Win and Under 2.5 Goals.

The hosts have seen Unders in four of their last six while it’s clicked in six of Charlotte’s last nine. Our away side here always keep things tight and they never get battered. They just can’t seem to get over the line away from home so I’m expecting another narrow away defeat for them.
