Mauricio Pochettino guided Paris St-Germain to another Ligue 1 title but that wasn’t enough to keep him in a job as they crashed out of PSG’s Holy Grail, also known as the Champions League, in pretty meek fashion to Real Madrid.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

It never felt like the right fit with the Parisian’s striking superstars not able or willing to put the effort in to match the Argentine’s pressing, high octane style of play.

In the end Pochettino’s sacking was a long time coming. PSG’s top brass have had a long time to think about his successor and so have Paddy’s traders. So who’s in the running to be the next PSG manager?

Christophe Galtier Lille

Christophe Galtier

Nice boss Christophe Galtier features prominently in the betting and his main claim to fame was beating PSG to the 2020/21 title with the unfancied Lille. He walked out on them the following summer and led Nice to a 5th-placed finish last term.

Zinedine Zidane

Two time Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is something of a Champions League specialist which would undoubtedly appeal to the PSG top brass. They’ve won everything they can in France but the top continental prize continues to be their ultimate aim.

Max Allegri

Juventus manager Max Allegri seems to know what he likes and that’s managing Juventus. He did the rounds in Italy before settling on The Old Lady and racked up the trophies between 2014 and 2019. He got the boot, then loitered around in Paddy’s next manager markets for two years, before returning to Turin at the start of last season.

Sergio Conceicao

Porto manager Sergio Conceicao guided the Portuguese giants to the league title this season ahead of Sporting and Benfica so he’s clearly got something. However, is his profile high enough to take over at PSG?

Thiago Motta

Thiago Motta has been making moves in Paddy’s market and the former PSG midfielder racked up over 150 appearances for the French champions in a six-year career there. He’s been doing a handy job at Italian side Spezia but this would be some step up for the former PSG under-19s boss.

Didier Deschamps

French hero Didier Deschamps has been in charge of his country for 10 years and is gearing up to defend their World Cup crown in November. Would be even consider leaving his current job with Qatar looming?

Marcelo Gallardo

Pochettino not working out for you? Why not try another middle aged Argentine? Marcelo Gallardo might not be well known in Europe but he’s doing a sterling job at River Plate in his homeland.
