Arsenal’s Champions League hopes suffered a massive setback in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Thursday night.

The Gunners would have all-but secured Champions League football next season if they managed to avoid defeat against their North London rivals, but they now must win two tricky games if they are to return to the European top table for the first time since 2017.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

Newcastle are looking to take just their second point from the top six this season in their final game against the division’s best sides. Their only point so far this season came in January when they held Man Utd to a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park. After looking doomed when he took over, with safety now secured Eddie Howe will be keen to see how his side compete against the Gunners.

We’ve been through the form-book and come up with a four-way bet builder for Monday’s live match. Let’s have a gander…

Monday 8pm: Newcastle United v Arsenal
TV: Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Premier League

Match Result: Draw

That Tottenham defeat was peak Arsenal, coming after a run of four impressive victories had put Mikel Arteta’s side in the driving seat for fourth place. Incidentally, that run of four impressive victories came after a run of three equally unimpressive defeats had threatened to derail their campaign. Arteta’s side simply do not have the consistency to nail down that final European place and their hopes could come unstuck against a much-improved Newcastle outfit.

Newcastle, like Arsenal, have recently seen an impressive run of results come to an end. Howe’s side had won four consecutive games to rise to the lofty heights of ninth only to then lose back-to-back games against Liverpool and Manchester City, although there is no great shame in that. They will pose significant problems and could open the door for Tottenham in the race for fourth.

Under 10.5 Corners

Monday night’s game is hugely unlikely to match the Premier League average of 10.4 corners per game. There are an average of just 8.6 corners per Premier League games involving Newcastle this season, by far the lowest average of any team in the league.

Arsenal do not fare much better. Games involving the Gunners have seen an average of 9.6 corners per game – the fourth-lowest average in the league this season. Ten of Arsenal’s last 13 games have seen 10 corners or fewer and Monday’s game is unlikely to be any different.

Over 4.5 Cards

Neither Arsenal nor Newcastle fare well in the Premier League’s disciplinary table this season. The Toon boast the third-worst disciplinary record in the division, picking up 78 yellow cards and two red cards in 36 games so far.

Arsenal, on the other hand, boast the 13th-best disciplinary record in the division with 55 yellow cards and four red cards. No club has picked up more red cards than the Gunners this season, which is an entirely unsurprising statistic considering they always seem to find themselves a man down. It wouldn’t be at all surprising to see a smattering of cards on Monday evening.

Newcastle to have 4 or more shots on target

Newcastle average just under four shots on target per game in the Premier League this season, while Arsenal concede just under four shots on target per game on average, but Howe’s side stand a good chance of bettering that average on Monday. They have managed 27 efforts on target in their last six games – an average of 4.5 per game – despite facing the considerable defensive might of City and Liverpool in their last two games.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have faced 16 efforts on target in their last four games at a rate of four per game and are likely to match that average on Monday if they defend anything like how they did against Spurs last time out.
