Pop star Dua Lipa is set to re-record Liverpool FC’s seminal masterpiece ‘Anfield Rap’ ahead of their FA Cup Final showdown with Chelsea, Paddy Power News can exclusively reveal.
The 26-year-old songstress is recording Liverpool’s official FA Cup song after her hit single ‘One Kiss’ became somewhat of an adopted anthem for the club’s supporters.
‘Anfield Rap’ was originally released in 1988 before Liverpool’s FA Cup Final against Wimbledon and has been credited by many critics as the song that catapulted Scouse-Rap to the forefront of hip hop.
The track, featuring legendary MCs John ‘Aldo’ Aldridge and Steve ‘Macca’ McMahon, was voted number 2 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Rap Songs, missing out on the top spot to Gazza’s ‘Geordie Boys’.
‘It’s a little nerve-racking following in the footsteps artists like MC Aldo and Macca’, Dua Lipa told Paddy Power News.
‘Lyrically, ‘Anfield Rap’ is as close to perfection as you’ll get. ‘Alright Aldo Sound as a pound, I’m cushty la but there’s nothing down’. Even MC Hammer couldn’t touch that’.
The singer will perform the track alongside Liverpool’s first team squad with some beatboxing provided by manager Jurgen Klopp.
Meanwhile, the Merseyside club revealed they would be wearing hideous cream suits and sunglasses on the day of the Wembley showpiece.
The choice of attire is a tribute to the club’s losing finalists of 1996, affectionately remembered as the ‘Spice Boys’.
‘If Neil Ruddock can pull-off an off-white suit and shades combo, then so can I’, defender John Robertson told Paddy Power News while posing for pics with teammates against a garden fence.
In related news, Thomas Tuchel is releasing a cover of 90s Europop classic ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’ by Eiffel 65 as Chelsea’s official FA Cup Final song.
‘It was a choice between this or something involving Suggs. I went for the lesser of two evils’, the German told Paddy Power News.
‘I’m blue, da ba dee da ba di da ba dee da ba di, da ba dee da ba di’, he sang.
