Liverpool head to Villarreal with one foot in the 2022 Champions League final thanks to their comprehensive 2-0 win in the first leg. Many people thought the rock-solid and counter attacking Yellow Submarine might have the tactics, mentality and fire power to sink the Reds but it certainly didn’t turn out that way.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Jurgen Klopp’s crew dominated from start to finish at Anfield and broke the deadlock thanks to Jordan Henderson’s deflected cross before Sadio Mane made it two seconds later. The most threat Villarreal could muster was one off-target shot in the whole 90.

They had shocked Juventus and Bayern Munich to make it this far, but the first leg only proved to emphasise the gap between the Premier League’s top two and the big boys in the other major leagues in Europe. It was total domination, but can we expect the same at El Madrigal? Let’s take a look with a Bet Builder for Tuesday’s huge clash.

Liverpool to Win

I just can’t see the Liverpool juggernaut failing to flatten Villarreal again here. The Reds have won 10 of their last 12, with only Manchester City and Benfica earning draws in that time. By contrast, Villarreal have won just three of their last nine in all competitions, losing to the likes of Alaves, Levante and Cadiz along the way.

I’m not expecting a rout here as the home side will probably set up in their usual defensive style before being forced to open up as the clock ticks towards to 90. This should play into our hands in terms of this Bet Builder but we’re getting a really good price on Liverpool to Win to kick us off.

Under 2.5 Goals

I’m not saying Liverpool are slowing down or that the wheels are coming off, more that the carefree romp that was April has given way to the realisation that they might be on for something truly special this season with a legendary quadruple still in the offing.

Despite dominating the games and boasting a vast array of attacking talent, they’ve seen Under 2.5 Goals in their last three matches, including the first leg of this last week. Other than in both quarter final games with Benfica and two matches with City, Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in eight of their last 12.

In their last dozen across the competitions, Unai Emery’s side have seen Unders click in nine games. This just feels like they’ll shut up shop before conceding late on as they make a token gesture to get back into the tie.

Sadio Mane To Score Anytime

Sadio Mane bagged the second last week and looks the most likely to grab another for Liverpool here. With the Villarreal low block in full effect, it proved hard for Mo Salah to get enough space to cut inside and shoot, while opportunities for his trademark counter attacking goals will be limited for most of the game given how compact the hosts will be.

Instead I think it’s better to side with Mane to Score Anytime. He’s probably going to be playing centrally again and will be on hand to show those lightening feet to gobble up any scraps or clever through balls that might come his way. He’s 3rd favourite to net here so offers a bit of value too and he’s nabbed four in Liverpool’s last five games.

Mo Salah to Score Or Assist

As alluded to earlier I think Villarreal will be giving plenty of attention to Mo Salah. While he was a little cramped for space in the first leg he did pop up with a lovely assist for that Mane goal.

I think we’re getting a fair price on Salah to Score or Assist here. I know he often (rightly) gets a bit of stick for being selfish but Salah is The Reds’ top scorer and 3rd-highest provider. He’s got 14 assists to his name to go along with the 30 goals he’s plundered in 45 games this term.

He’s always involved in one way or another and if you can somehow stop him scoring he’ll hurt you in other ways. It’s a big if, need I say more? Salah to Score or Assist rounds us off here.
