Sunday, Funday – as the kids say.

Now, when they say that, I’m 90% certain they’re not referring to a trifecta of football matches that features the titanic clash between Brighton and Southampton, but I’m content with the reference.

And naturally by titanic, I’m referring to the boat’s fate rather than its grandeur.

Still, what are a few roast spuds, a dollop of gravy, a lean cut of roast beef and some parsley without the tantalising tones of Burnley and Wolves on in the background?

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

At this stage of the season, games are always more interesting for the neutral because there’s context. Even if a game means very little, at least you know that.

Would Brighton and Southampton been a bigger fixture in November simply because there was a sub-1% chance either could sneak into the top eight? Absolutely not.

A fixture like Wolves and Burnley meant nothing three months ago. Now, one is genuinely fighting for a European place and the other is facing an uphill battle to avoid the drop.

14:00 – Burnley v Wolves: Wolves to win

I love that new manager buzz. You’re guaranteed a couple of good results but ultimately, it comes to nothing long-term.

Will Wolves have enough to beat Burnley, mitigating factors aside? Absolutely.

Is the only thing turning you off simply that post-Dyche, the Clarets have been more resolute. It’s a short term solution to a long-term problem and they’re going to be turned over by a side better at counter-attacking than they are.

For all the enthusiasm that Burnley might be showing against semi-interested sides like Southampton, Wolves are incredibly efficient in front of goal – they’re just inconsistent and usually need a wake-up call. They just lost to Newcastle, so there’s that box ticked.

14:00 – Brighton v Southampton: Over 2.5 Goals

Southampton appear to have packed it in, which is pretty standard for them at this stage of the season. And yet for all the laughs their form seems to get, it’s produced a points tally that’s just a point less than Brighton’s.

Their issue, naturally, is that they’ve gone and shipped 50+ goals already and without having any reason to solidify for the sake of getting results, their games should see more and more goals.

They’ve just conceded twice to that Burnley team – something deemed borderline impossible up until recently.

And Brighton have just faced off against Man City. And you know my rule – if you’d had to focus defensively against Man City in the last seven days, your entire back four – or in this case, ten – will be knackered. Goals!

14:00 – Chelsea v West Ham: Chelsea to win

They just do, really. And that’s even more solidified by the fact that West Ham have a *checks notes and clears glasses* major European semi-final to consider.

Chelsea can turn it on whenever they feel like it, and given their sole focus is back on league matters, and they’re far enough removed from European disappointment, this should be a touch cosy.
