Football Tips: Chelsea v Arsenal best bets from Phil Thompson

Arsenal’s hopes of a top four finish have hit the skids in recent weeks after three straight defeats to Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton. They now embark on a trickier run of games in the shape of Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham trailing rivals Tottenham in the final Champions League qualification spot by three points.

Despite their patchy form, boss Mikel Arteta will be hopeful of turning things around against their London rivals, who look to have banked third place in the table.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have little hope of catching the top two but have an FA Cup final to prepare for next month after their 2-0 win over Palace in Sunday’s semi-final at Wembley.

Our resident tipster Phil Thompson has been studying the stats ahead of Wednesday’s Stamford Bridge showdown and delivered his Arsenal v Chelsea tips below.

THOMMO: Chelsea had conceded seven goals in two games prior to the 6-0 win at Southampton in the Premier League. They were relatively solid against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup, limiting them to small chances.

Chelsea will be confident heading into this one despite their Champions League exit against Real Madrid. I thought they were unlucky in both legs.

There’s more at stake for Arsenal in this game but I just can’t see the Gunners winning. They’ve lost four of their last five and the wheels have come off.

They’ve only scored twice in their last five Premier League games. That is not good enough.

I’m going with Chelsea to Win To Nil and I like Kai Havertz to Score Anytime. The German has been brilliant for the Blues this season and he’ll relish facing this out of form Arsenal side.
