An inebriated Delia Smith inadvertently joined an anti-Glazer demonstration at Old Trafford when she mistook green and gold scarf-wearing protestors as Norwich City fans, Paddy Power News can reveal.
Norwich’s majority shareholder got lost outside the stadium when she spotted a raucous group of Manchester United supporters demonstrating against the club’s American owners.
Smith, having consumed “a couple of glasses” of wine on the coach journey from Norfolk, misidentified the green and gold adorned protestors as Norwich supporters and joined their ranks.
Eyewitnesses claim the 80-year-old barged her way through the throng before hoisting a smoking green flare above her head and shouting, ‘Let’s be ‘avin’ you! Come on!’
Smith then made her way into Old Trafford’s East Stand where she berated kiosk staff about the standard of their over-priced pies.
‘Where are you? Where are you?’ screamed the celebrity chef, while searching for the chicken in her chicken pie.
Stewards then escorted Smith back to her hospitality suite shortly before kick-off.
‘It was an easy mistake to make’, explained Smith.
‘They were waving green & gold flags, wearing green & gold scarves and none of them had Manchester accents.’
‘Although, I did wonder why they kept chanting ‘we want Glazers out’. I thought someone had broken a window or something?’
Meanwhile, Manchester United fans feel their latest protest is almost certain to end the Glazer’s ownership of the club.
‘I boycotted the game for a whole 17 minutes before entering the stadium with my renewed season ticket’, said one 40-year-old fan in a Ronaldo shirt.
‘At half-time I bought a pie and one of those £3 pints Mr Woodward fobbed us off with after the last protest’.
‘After the game I popped into the Megastore to buy some pyjamas then made my along Sir Matt Busby Way singing ‘F**k the Glazers’.
‘That’ll teach ‘em!’
