The race for the Champions League places is really hotting up as we get to the business end of the season. Monday night sees Arsenal make the trip across London to Selhurst Park, to play a Palace side unbeaten in four league games.

Both sides will be hoping to keep up the momentum they’d built before the international break, which saw two of Palace’s bright young talents make their England debuts, in Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell.

Match Result: The Draw

Arsenal find themselves in the driving seat for fourth after a run of six wins from their last seven gave the a three-point buffer over fifth-placed Tottenham with a game-in-hand. In fact, Chelsea’s shock 4-1 defeat at home to Brentford on Saturday has left the door to third ajar for the Gunners, who play Chelsea in just over a week.

A win at Selhurst Park would simultaneously strengthen their grip on fourth and leave them just two points behind Chelsea, but it will be far from straightforward. As Crystal Palace demonstrated in their 4-0 demolition of Everton in an FA Cup quarter-final before the international break, they are a force to be reckoned with, especially at home.

Palace held champions Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in their last league game before the break and have lost just two of their last 13 games in all competitions, pushing Liverpool and Chelsea all the way in narrow defeats during that spell. Arsenal are undoubtedly one of the in-form teams in the league, but they have struggled to win convincingly.

All but one of their last six wins have been by exactly one goal and they may be forced to settle for a point on Monday night.

Arsenal to have four or more shots on target

Arsenal have recorded the fifth-highest number of shots in target in the league this season in terms of shots per game, but they have struggled to find the target in recent away matches. Mikel Arteta’s side have managed just nine shots on target in their three away league games in 2022, far below their league average of five shots on target per game.

They may struggle to reach their league average against Palace on Monday night but are a good bet to better their average of three shots on target in away games this year. They face a Crystal Palace side that has conceded an average of exactly four shots on target per game in the Premier League this season.

They should be expected to reach four shots on goal on Monday night, especially if they are chasing a win.

Crystal Palace to have over 3.5 corners

Palace have recorded a modest average of 4.59 corners per league game this season, winning 32 in their last six league outings. They have won 23 corners in their last six games at Selhurst Park in all competitions at an average of just under four per game.

It would be unsurprising to see them match that average on Monday against an Arsenal side that has conceded 4.79 corners per game on average this season. The Gunners have faced an average of exactly four corners in the last eight league games and could do so again on Monday against a Palace side buoyed by the backing of a vocal home crowd.

Conor Gallagher to be shown a card

Conor Gallagher has enjoyed a break-out season while on loan at Selhurst Park, but his discipline has left a little to be desired. The English midfielder has picked up eight bookings in the league this season, more than any other Palace player.

He has been booked in three of his last four Palace games in all competitions and three of his last six league outings for Palace. Gallagher has made 48 fouls in the league this season, the third highest in the division behind Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis and Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.

He is likely to commit more fouls against an Arsenal side that has drawn 51 fouls in their last six games, with the spotlight shining on the opposition’s treatment of Bukayo Saka. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Gallagher edge closer to a two-game suspension on Monday night.
