Ralf Rangnick made a middling start to life as Manchester United’s interim manager and it hasn’t got much better from there. The 63-year-old succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was given the axe after a 4-1 loss to Watford, but the change hasn’t engineered an instant upturn in fortunes.

He’s said to have been interviewed for the job ahead of a summer decision. He’s been warned off the role by ex-United manager Louis van Gaal so will Ten Hag stick or twist with Ajax?

Mauricio Pochettino

Former Tottenham boss and current Paris St-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem to be enjoying managing the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. He’s usually on the brink of being sacked by PSG if they haven’t won 5-0. His family is still based in England and reports claim he’s keen to come back to the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel

Could United capitalise on Chelsea’s ownership situation and snatch Thomas Tuchel from their rivals? Tuchel has won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup since taking over at Stamford Bridge, while also guiding them to an FA Cup and EFL Cup finals. United can only dream of that track record at the moment.

Luis Enrique

Spain boss Luis Enrique is another linked with the United job, however, the former Barcelona manager has publicly said he’ll be in charge of the national team at the World Cup later this year. Could that change if United table a sweet offer to the Spaniard?

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte is, at the time of writing, managing Spurs but things could always change quickly with the Italian. It seems the only requirement he has is that the club he works for spends colossal amounts on players going over the hill. A match made in heaven?

Julen Lopetegui

Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui has been linked with the United job since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November. However, Sevilla are flying under Lopetegui this season and they’re in with a shout of finishing in the top two in La Liga. It’s hard to say whether the Spaniard would swap that for the uncertainty at Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick

Oh look, it’s current interim Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick. We know United can be prone to making the interim permanent but will they do the same again? Possession is 9/10ths of the law and, with him currently set to move upstairs at the end of the season, might he be tempted to stay in the dugout?

Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone seems like a permanent fixture in the Spanish capital and it’s hard to imagine him prowling any other touchline in his trademark black suit. However, rumours of his exit persist and he features prominently on Paddy’s traders’ long list.

Brendan Rodgers

Former Liverpool manager and current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers gets his sides playing great football and they normally overachieve, but he is perhaps running out of steam at the King Power? How would the United faithful react to an ex-Kopite running their club?

Didier Deschamps

France men’s national team manager Didier Deschamps might be a maverick appointment, especially with a World Cup coming up later this year. Les Bleus have a good chance of defending their crown and would he want to swap a shot at global glory for the mob that runs around at Old Trafford?

Zinedine Zidane

More of an ego manager than a football manager. Zinedine Zidane feels like the boss-level Solskjaer and had great success at Real Madrid. He was less effective in his last stint there but he could do well with United’s bottomless resources and star names. He might be holding out for the France national team job.

Roberto Martinez

The man in the brown brogues, Roberto Martinez. The Spaniard always seems to flatter to deceive wherever he goes which might be appealing to the Glazer family if they want to keep some continuity at the club.
