Nottingham Forest (+2)

Liverpool may have faced Premier League opposition last time out in the FA Cup, but they face their toughest test in the competition to date against an in-form Nottingham Forest side at the City Ground on Sunday evening. Forest have dumped out Premier League opposition in the form of Arsenal and Leicester on their route to the last eight in addition to overcoming promotion-chasing Huddersfield in the fifth round.

Steve Cooper has utterly transformed this Forest since taking over in September when they were rooted to the foot of the Championship table. Not only have they reached the last eight of the FA Cup for the first time in 26 years, but they have also given themselves a real chance of securing a play-off place for the first time since 2011.

Forest are unbeaten at the City Ground in nine games in 2022, winning eight and drawing once. Liverpool should have just about enough to end that run, but it will by no means be straightforward, especially considering they are likely to rest players following a difficult midweek game at Arsenal.

Both teams to score

Liverpool have rediscovered their defensive stability to reignite their Premier League title challenge, but that has not translated itself to their FA Cup performances. Jurgen Klopp’s side have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine league outings but have conceded in all three of their FA Cup ties to date against Shrewsbury, Cardiff, and Norwich.

Forest, meanwhile, have scored an impressive seven goals in their three FA Cup outings against formidable opposition. Cooper’s side have scored in every game at the City Ground in 2022, scoring an impressive 23 goals in nine games in all competitions.

Forest will cause Liverpool plenty of problems on Sunday, particularly down the right-hand side through the devastating combination of Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Liverpool concede for a fourth consecutive FA Cup game on Sunday evening, but it would be even less surprising to see Klopp’s side breach the Forest defence at the other end.

Keinan Davis to have two or more shots

Keinan Davis has hit the ground running since singing on loan from Aston Villa in January, scoring four goals in ten Championship starts to help give Forest’s promotion push a real shot in the arm. He will prove a handful for a Liverpool defence that has looked uncharacteristically shaky in the competition to date.

Liverpool have faced 14 shots in three games at a rate of almost five per game, but that rate can be expected to rise against a Forest side that has attempted 69 shots in its last six games. Chief amongst the Forest players trying their luck has been Davis.

The Villa loanee averages two shots per game in the Championship since his arrival at the City Ground and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him match that average against what will likely be a much-changed Liverpool defence.

Takumi Minamino anytime goalscorer

Takumi Minamino’s Liverpool career has never really got going, but he does boast an excellent goalscoring record this season, especially in cup competitions. Minamino has scored seven goals in seven starts in the League Cup and FA Cup this season, developing a knack for scoring against weaker opposition.

He scored both of Liverpool’s goals in the 2-1 win over Norwich last time out and is good value to find the back of the net at the City Ground on Sunday.
