Bet Builder Tips: Our 28/1 punt for Everton v Boreham Wood on Thursday

Our tipster Colin Harvey wonders if The Wood can come good.

This one’s got all the ingredients of a classic giant killing. We’ve got a grand old team who are in a bit of strife coming up against a well organised and in form non-league side with absolutely nothing to lose and memories to make.

Add in that Frank Lampard’s probably going to rest and rotate, given their Premier League predicament, a big atmosphere under the lights and the watching millions, it could be a famous night for Boreham Wood. The only ingredient we’re missing is that it’s at Everton, rather than Meadow Park.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS

The Toffees are in dire form with just two wins within the 90 minutes in their last 11 games across all formats. Going further back it’s three wins in 20 with another coming after extra time against Hull in the 3rd round.

The Wood are enjoying a great season but Thursday’s game might be as good as it gets if they don’t pull their recent league form around. Maybe their minds have been on this game? Mine certainly is. Let’s see if we can make it through to the next round of the cup with a winning Bet Builder.

Frank Lampard Chelsea Rennes Champions League November 4, 2020

Thursday 8.15pm: Everton v Boreham Wood
TV: ITV and ITV Hub

Under 2.5 Goals

Going out on a bit of a limb here but I don’t think this is going to be a rout for Everton. I know there’s three full divisions and 77 positions between the two, but Boreham Wood are pretty good defensively.

They’ve let in just 17 goals in 27 National League matches this season and they’ve seen Over 2.5 Goals just twice in their last 13 in all competitions. They’re hardly going to come out all guns blazing here.

Everton are likely to rotate and that means they’re probably going to start sluggishly. They’ve had Over 2.5 Goals in three of their last six, failing to score in three and losing four of them. I think it’ll be a gritty defensive performance from the away side and I think it’s worth taking a bit of a chance on Under 2.5 Goals.

Both Teams To Score? No

That said, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Boreham Wood score. They will be more worried about keeping them out at the back than knocking them in at the other end. They’re hardly prolific in the 5th tier, either. They’re averaging 1.37 goals a game in the National League.

Everton are averaging just 1.16 a game in the top flight but they’re going to get chances here just by sheer volume of possession and pressure alone. I expect Everton will win this to Nil and for Both Teams To Score? No to click.

Andros Townsend to Score Anytime

One man who’s likely to start is Andros Townsend. The former Crystal Palace wideman has fallen down the pecking order since Frank Lampard replaced Rafa Bentiez at Goodison Park.

He has also scored in both of The Toffees’ FA Cup games this season and has not started for three games so is a prime candidate to get the nod from the off if the hosts rotate which they surely will. He’s having a good season and is actually the club’s top goal scorer with seven in 23 appearances. At a decent price, Andros Townsend to Score Anytime should have a good chance.

Over 10.5 Corners

Given how this is expected to play out I think there’s some value in backing Over 10.5 Corners. We can’t expect our away side to help us out much as they’re likely to be camped on the edge of their own box for pretty much the whole 90.

When that happens we normally see loads of crosses and pot shots from outside the area which inevitably leads to lots of corners with bodies flying about and keepers making saves at full stretch. Not a lot of stats behind this one, more of a feel play, but I think Everton could pass this Over 10.5 Corners benchmark by themselves before the 60-minute mark.
