Paddy Power ambassador and Liverpool FC legend Phil Thompson is hoping his old friends from across Stanley Park can do his Reds a favour this Saturday. It’s Everton v Manchester City with the champions looking to bounce back after their surprise 3-2 loss to Tottenham last weekend.
Everton have got their own problems to worry about and they’re just two points clear of the drop zone. City’s lead at the top is down to three points as Thommo’s Reds start to breathe more heavily down the back of their necks. There’s narrative aplenty, but where’s the smart money going? Here’s his Everton v Manchester City tips.
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Look away Evertonians! They rise to the occasion, normally. They’re still living on the time that they battered Manchester City 4-0 at Goodison Park [in 2017]. That does seem a long time ago now.
My worry for Everton is that I think the bear has been poked with Man City losing to Spurs, losing that run that they were on. It was their first defeat in 16 Premier League games so they will have been damaged by it.
Do Everton have enough to worry them, one of the best defences in the Premier League? I’m not too sure. Their first win in seven for Everton came against Leeds United and we know all about them this season.
They then had that defeat against Southampton. There’s no continuity, there’s no consistency with this Everton side and they must be going, ‘Oh my goodness, we’re coming up against a Manchester City team which has been hurt, Pep Guardiola and his players will be annoyed’.
I’m going to go 2-0 to Manchester City. I’m not going to go too high with the City goals because I believe Everton will give it a good go and show a fighting spirit but I do fancy City to come out on top in this and Mahrez to Score Anytime.
Football Tips: 5/1 play leads the way in Thommo’s Everton v Man City punts

I’m going to go for Manchester City to Win this to Nil, I really do think so. Because there’s so many goal scorers with this Man City side I’m going to go with Riyad Mahrez to Score Anytime again. I think he’s had a really good spell.
