Football is back! Well, did it ever really go away? Some of it did, the Premier League stopped but it’s bursting back onto the scene with one game this weekend. In reality, the main focus across this Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the FA Cup 4th Round.

It’s always a complete hodgepodge across the leagues, this weekend. You’ve got teams from the top two tiers with a spare weekend after crashing out in the 3rd round as well as a smattering of teams lower down the pyramid who have a rare Saturday off with their opponents still in the competition.

Obviously we’re only interested in the teams in action and I’ll be running the rule over Saturday’s 3pm FA Cup 4th round matches here. I think I’ve found some super value which all adds up to a nice four-fold. Let’s get stuck in.

Everton v Brentford – Everton to Win

There are some massively one-sided matches on at 3pm this Saturday but Everton v Brentford isn’t one of them. If this game had taken place during the fallow week I’d have been siding with The Bees. However, a lot has happened at Goodison Park in the last seven days or so and the tables have turned somewhat.

The appointment of Frank Lampard and a couple of handy signings on deadline day will have brought some energy to the club and I think they’ll ride that wave of euphoria to victory on Saturday. More of a hunch pick than anything, but we’ve seen the new-manager effect time and time again so I’m happy to side with Everton to Win here.

Man City v Fulham – Man City (-2)

To one of the aforementioned one-sided games where Fulham are so unlikely to win they may as well be 100/1. It’s testament to how incredible Manchester City are that a side who have scored 23 goals alone in the last five games are rank outsiders. Of course there’s a league between them and City are on track for another Premier League title and continue to be super charged by an oil-rich state.

I think they’ll sweep the Championship side away as Fulham’s runaway train act has started to slow a little and they could only draw with Blackpool last time out. Conversely, I think City will come out firing after failing to batter Southampton a fortnight ago. Pep Guardiola’s had two weeks to whip himself into a frenzy and Fulham will bare the brunt of it. Man City (-2) on the handicap looks a fair price.

Peterborough v QPR – QPR to Win

An all-Championship clash next where relegation-haunted Peterborough face promotion-chasing QPR. The Posh’s last win came five games back in the 3rd round over League Two Bristol Rovers. The R’s haven’t lost for seven games and they’ll be expecting to progress here.

I can’t see any other result other than a QPR win to be honest. There’s the usual FA Cup caveat of check how strong the sides are but with both having keener eyes on the league, QPRs reserves should be better than Peterborough’s if it comes down to that. It’s got to be a QPR win.

Stoke v Wigan – Wigan to Win

Bit of a long ranger, this, but I think Wigan to Win against Stoke is just too big. The Latics are absolutely on fire while their hosts on Saturday have been stuttering a little of late, albeit in the league above. The way things are going these two will both be in The Championship next season.

The Potters are 12th in the second tier while Wigan are 2nd in League One, three points behind Rotherham with two games in hand. Wigan haven’t tasted defeat in any competition since October 26th – that’s 21 games ago! The Potters have won just twice in their last eight and, with the huge momentum the away side have here, I just fancy Wigan to Win. If you’re not feeling as bold, Wigan on the Double Chance is a great bet.
