Football Accumulator Tips: Your 25/1 acca for Wednesday night’s matches

Our tipster Colin Harvey rages against the international fixture schedule.

* All prices are bang up to date with our snazzy widgets, while odds in copy are accurate at time of publishing but subject to change.

They’ve only gone and done it. They’ve snuck another bloody international break in and it’s no ordinary international break either. Even though the EPL has just emerged from Covid-enforced isolation, we’ve got a fallow week in the big league due to international action taking place outside of Europe.

Strange times indeed. Never mind, we’ve still got plenty of action on Wednesday night with AFCON, the Premiership and the Championship taking the opportunity to flash their ankles at us.

It’s the final last 16 Africa Cup of Nations tie at 7pm where Mali and Equatorial Guinea go at it for a place in the quarter finals. We’ll also take in the Old Firm with Hearts v Celtic and Rangers v Livingston at 7.45pm before West Brom v Preston do battle in the English second tier at 8pm.

There’s a fair amount riding on all these games with one title or another on the line in every match. Our most pressing concern is more immediate and finding some winners for a four-fold acca on Wednesday night.

7pm: Mali v Equatorial Guinea – Mali Win & Under 2.5 Goals

TV: Sky Sports Premier League

Group F winners Mali take on Equatorial Guinea who finished 2nd in Group E on Wednesday night. Both teams won two group games on their way to the knockouts and will be heading into this in high spirits. Mali are yet to lose this season in nine games while The National Thunder have tasted defeat twice over the same number of fixtures.

Mali are Paddy’s favourites and I think that’s fair but we can bolt some extra value onto our betslip by adding Under 2.5 Goals. This hasn’t been a vintage AFCON with goals at a premium. I can’t see that changing with these two as Unders has landed in all four of The Eagles’ most recent matches and 100% of Equatorial Guinea’s last eight games. Mali to Win and Under 2.5 Goals is a great price.

7.45pm: Hearts v Celtic – Celtic to Win

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football

To chillier climes next where Hearts hosts Celtic in the first of our two featured Premiership games. It’s a mouth-watering clash in prospect with Hearts in 3rd and in good nick. The Bhoys are 2nd and are in predictably-fine form.

Hearts beat Celtic on the opening day of the season before The Hoops turned the tables on them at home in the league and in the League Cup. Back at Tynecastle Hearts might be fancying their chances, however, Celtic have hit top gear now and have now lost just once in their last 21 in all competitions.

Hearts are in handy recent form with four wins on the bounce, but before that they lost four of the seven prior. The Bhoys have really sorted themselves out and, boring as it may be, I think we have to be on the Celtic Win here.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst Rangers

7.45pm: Rangers v Livingston – Rangers Win & Under 2.5 Goals

TV: Rangers TV

A much more one-sided affair next where Rangers are huge favourites against Livingston. Rangers are top, four points clear of their old friends from across Glasgow, while Livi are 8th and probably safe in the top flight for another year.

The Gers have failed to win on five occasions in the Premiership this season while Livingston have won just six matches this term. Anything other than a home win here would be a big shock.

I like the look of Rangers to Win to Nil here but we’re getting much better odds on Rangers to Win and Under 2.5 Goals which is a punt that has landed in five of their last seven. Livingston have been scoring with regularity of late but there’s a great chance they fire a blank here as Rangers stroll to another routine, low-scoring victory.

8pm: West Brom v Preston – Under 2.5 Goals

TV: Sky Sports Red Button

West Brom are slowly tumbling down the Championship and find themselves in 5th heading into their clash with 15th-placed Preston on Wednesday. The Baggies have won just one of their last five and, going further back, three of their last 11.

It’s not much better for Preston who have won two of their last five and three of their last 10. It all makes this rather tricky to call, especially with West Brom letting off the shackles and recording a 3-0 win over Peterborough last time out.

That is the exception rather than the rule though and Under 2.5 Goals has clicked in 10 of their 11 Championship games before last weekend. Preston are a little more goal happy with Over 2.5 Goals in three of their last seven but with The Baggies on home soil we’re backing them to play to form and keep things tight.
