Following his recent reveal-all interview with Sky Italy in which Romelu Lukaku ended his own Chelsea career, the Belgian striker has made an unexpected enemy in the form of Oprah Winfrey who is said to be “gutted” that she was not offered this exclusive.
In what could be football’s most unprofessional incident since Wayne Rooney was knocked out cold by Phil Bardsley in a front-room boxing match, Lukaku spoke about his unhappiness in London, his disgust at the tactics implemented at Chelsea, his desire to return to Milan as well as delivering the fakest heartfelt apology since the Man United social media team went on their Christmas holidays.
And U.S TV icon Oprah Winfrey has been left cringing at just how badly the whole episode has played out for both Lukaku and herself.
“If he had come to me for this interview, I would have guaranteed him global sympathy and had him on the cover of TIME Magazine as their man of the year. Instead, he went to Sky Italy and has come out of this looking like a right tw*t,” the 67-year-old interviewer said.
“Everybody knows I’m the go-to person for this type of thing. Look at what I did for Prince Harry and Meghan.
“Easy questions, a few crocodile tears, huge ratings for me and a massive pay-cheque for all of us.”
“Where the f*ck even is Italy anyway?”
“I sat with my face in my hands as Rom started twerking for Inter supporters on live television hoping they’d take him back, all the while destroying his reputation with his current fans and p*ssing off his current manager. Absolutely amateur stuff.”
Paddy Power News contacted Lukaku to ask if he has any regrets over the things he discussed.
“I don’t have any regrets, but I would like to make a few more apologies. From the bottom of my heart I would like to apologise to the Everton supporters. I should never have left in the manner that I did in 2017. I should have spoken to you first about why I wanted a transfer.
“I hope you find it in your hearts to forgive me because when life goes tits-up in Italy after a year, I will be looking to return to Goodison in January 2023.”
With this Lukaku interview seemingly affecting more than just those at Chelsea and Inter, a spokesperson from the Manchester United Supporters Club has confirmed they will be spending £600 on a plane to fly a banner over Stamford Bridge in an upcoming match saying, “we told you he was a knob”.
