Perception is a funny old thing, isn’t it? By all accounts Patrick Vieira and Crystal Palace are having a pretty good season. In contrast, Manchester United have been a complete disaster and maybe it’s time to wind the whole club up and start afresh.

In reality, Palace have won just three games this campaign. A lot of the love for them has come as a reaction to the change from the relentlessly negative, holding-on-for-grim-death style that we saw under Roy Hodgson for what felt like 15 years.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

United have been dreadful by their standards of old, certainly recently in the Premier League. But they’re still in 7th, just three points off West Ham in 4th heading into this game week. Maybe everything’s not quite as it seems with the narrative around these two?

Another spanner in the works, from a betting perspective at least, is the arrival of Ralf Rangnick in the United dugout after he was finally granted his work permit. Michael Carrick did a pretty good job in his interim-interim position and there’s a bit of hope around Old Trafford again. What does the sum of all these factors add up to? As always, the only way to work it out is with a Bet Builder.

Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United to Win

A couple of weeks ago I would have been all over the Crystal Palace Double Chance market to kick us off, citing how hard The Eagles were to beat and pouring over United’s woes at the back.

However, Palace have lost their last two to the struggling Aston Villa and Leeds. Prior to that they hadn’t lost in seven Premier League games, beating Wolves and Manchester City, while drawing the other five. Maybe Vieira’s honeymoon period is over?

Rangnick, on the other hand, has just completed his nuptials and is setting off on a six-month tour of England with his new partner. As we’ve seen in Carrick’s short spell, there has been an uplift in United’s form with some of their key names deciding to call off the strike and get back to work.

In their last three they won a tricky away clash with Villarreal, took a point off Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and beat Arsenal during the week. With plenty to prove, and Palace starting to wilt a little, I think the most likely outcome is a Manchester United Win.

Over 2.5 Goals

While I think United will triumph they still have massive problems. One of the biggest is the slab-headed colossus that is Harry Maguire and his merry band of bumbling defensive comrades. Maybe the implementation of a new style will bring some cohesion?

All the signs are that it’s going to be quite the diversion from the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reign and it’s going to take time to settle in and for us to see a marked improvement. Basically, I think they’re going to concede.

They’ve had just one clean sheet in their last six in all competitions but they are mighty fearsome going forward. It’s never boring with United this year and again I think we’ll see nets bulging aplenty and Over 2.5 Goals.

Scott McTominay to be Booked

Scotland’s Scott McTominay might not be a world beater but his attitude can never be questioned. The midfielder has been getting stuck in over the last few games as he tries to stamp his authority on both a spot in United’s starting XI and midfield battles across England and Europe.

In fact, he’s probably been a bit over zealous and has been racking up the cards of late. He’s been booked in three of United’s last four matches and, at the price, it’s worth a shot on McTominay to be Booked again as he tries a little too hard to impress his new boss.

Jadon Sancho to Score Anytime

Jadon Sancho’s United career has been very stop-start but it burst into life in Carrick’s first match as manager. He scored against Villarreal and then followed that up with another against Chelsea.

He’s now started four games on the bounce and is a player Rangnick will know well as Sancho’s time at Borussia Dortmund overlapped with German gaffer’s second spell at RB Leipzig. If the forward starts again, as I suspect he will, Sancho is a nice price to Score Anytime.
