The supposedly short Ralf Rangnick era begins at Manchester United on Thursday night as they welcome their old foes Arsenal to Old Trafford. Both sides are a shadow of their former selves from the glory days of the early noughties.
One man who’s still at the top of his game is Paddy Power ambassador Phil Thompson. He’s teamed up with the good folk at PPTV to deliver his definitive Manchester United v Arsenal tips. Here we go.
Arsenal are away from home and we have got Ralf at the wheel (well, if his work permit arrives in the post on time, that is). It’s a tough job that he’s coming into at the moment.
Yes, everybody was saying it was a good result at Chelsea, Manchester United defended well, with Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher having a go at each other – which I loved by the way! I’m thinking, we’re talking about a Manchester United side who got a good draw, but the stats behind it say Chelsea had 24 goal attempts and all the possession.
You’re going, ‘Wow, this Manchester United still have a long way to go to get out of this.’ It was a good draw, they’ve lost four of their last eight Premier League games. They haven’t scored from a set-piece all season which I find astonishing, and Arsenal have just one defeat in 12 games in all competitions.
You look at those games, there’s not a big scalp in there for Arsenal and they’ve only scored 15 goals in 13 Premier League games so I’m not expecting this to be a goal glut. I do fancy Both Teams to Score, though. You saw the way Liverpool took Arsenal apart.
This is intriguing and it’s hard to split them because Manchester United are at home, because of the demands on them, and because Arsenal are playing well. Do you see where I’m leading this too, guys? I’m going Both Teams to Score but for this to be a low-scoring Draw.

I’m going for 1-1 in this and I’ve got Marcus Rashford to Score Anytime and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Score Anytime.
