So it’s finally all over for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. What next for Manchester United? Well, in a literal sense it’s Villarreal away in the Champions League with Michael Carrick taking temporary charge to try and guide the Red Devils into the knockout stages.
One man who’s job is in no danger is Paddy’s talismanic ambassador Phil Thompson who returns to try and work out how Cristiano Ronaldo and co. will react to the departure of Solskjaer. So, with kick-off already looming over us, let’s get in to Phil’s Villarreal v Manchester United tips.
It’s hard to call, isn’t it? Is the sacking going to reignite Man United to try and prove everybody wrong? There is still a team in there somewhere and Villarreal are not in great form.
They’re 12th in La Liga with only 16 points. They can always turn it on, they’re one of those teams who like playing against the bigger teams, the better teams. As we know on Matchday 2 Manchester United needed that late Cristiano Ronaldo goal to give them victory.
I can’t pin my hopes on Manchester United, I don’t think anyone can. But I think they will respond – they’re a big club, they’re a big team and I think this has got The Draw written all over it with Both Teams to Score.
With Solskjaer going, and I do feel sorry for the guy because we all say he’s a nice guy, sometimes nice fellas can succeed but not often at the top – you’ve got to have a mean streak.
I think Ole has just lost that but I think it will give everybody a lift at the club and the chance to prove they are a team but I’m going for a 2-2 Draw in this one and Marcus Rashford to Score Anytime.
