Dutch midfielder Donny Van de Beek was last night spotted in his local supermarket buying a crate of expensive champagne and a Cuban cigar following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United manager.
When asked by a staff member if he was celebrating something special, the former Ajax star remarked ‘my new life starts tomorrow’, which was followed by a hop, skip and jump to the checkout.
When asked by the cashier what the future might hold following the departure of Solskjaer, Van de Beek said: “I’m just focussing on removing the splinters from my arse.
“Although, I have warned the kitman he may actually need to wash my shirt this week after the games against Villarreal and Chelsea.”
The employee then added to Paddy Paddy News: “When I asked him for identification he told me he was famous and I should know exactly who he is.
“I looked at his driving licence and couldn’t believe my eyes. The bloke who plays Dawson in Dawson’s Creek was shopping here in Didsbury.
“I always preferred Pacey when I was growing up but to have Dawson shopping in our store was the best thing ever.”
When asked about the Dutch international’s comments, a confused Solskjaer replied: “Who? I’ve never heard of the bloke”.
Elsewhere at Old Trafford the race for the captain’s armband has intensified, with Harry Maguire suspended for Sunday’s tricky trip to Stamford Bridge.
Having taken over penalty duty, corners, free-kicks, throw-ins, team-talks, pre-match interviews, post-match interviews, deciding what the squad eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and picking the starting XI, Cristiano Ronaldo is the early frontrunner to skipper the side.
