The Eddie Howe era at Newcastle begins at home to Brentford on Saturday and the former Bournemouth boss has a big job on his hands. The Toon are languishing 19th in the Premier League and are yet to win in 11 games.
They’re five points from safety but have a £200m life raft floating their way ahead of the January transfer window. So, with things set to kick into gear for Howe, who’s he going to sign and how’s his tenure at the Toon going to go? Here’s what Paddy’s traders think.
It’s odds on at the time of publication that Howe is the Newcastle manager at the start of the 2022/23 EPL season and close to Evens that he’s gone by the same timeframe.
It’s longer odds that it goes completely wrong for United and for them to get relegated this season with Howe getting the boot. The 43-year-old might be flicking through his little black book to link up with some of his former Cherries players with Nathan Ake the favourite to head to St James’ Park in the January transfer window.
Dominic Solanke was an expensive signing for Howe at Bournemouth and Paddy’s traders think there’s a chance he’ll make the same mistake again at Newcastle. Cherries stalwart Steve Cook is a much bigger price to swap the south coast for the north east.
Given the investment that seems to be coming you might fancy Eddie Howe to win any major trophy as Newcastle manager before December 31st 2025. There’s also a price on him to win two or more trophies in the same timeframe.
If you’re looking more short term there’s a juicy price on the Magpies to go unbeaten in their next five Premier League games. You can also back them to win their next five or go 10 games unbeaten but we’re getting towards Leicester 2015/16 territory now.
