19:00 Sheffield Wednesday v Harrogate Town: Sheffield Wednesday To Win

There’s nothing like a Yorkshire derby to kick us off, as the fallen giants of Sheffield Wednesday welcome the plucky upstarts from Harrogate to Hillsborough. Both sides are sitting pretty on top of Group H with six points from their two games to date, so urgency may not be on full display from either side in this one.

However, the home side should be at pains to arrest a recent slide that has seen the Owls slip to five draws in their last six games. Harrogate are in a mini-slump of their own, following three defeats in their previous six outings in all competitions. Given their recent poor form and gap of an entire league between the sides, we’re taking Sheffield Wednesday to come out on top here.

19:00 Sunderland v Bradford City: Sunderland To Win And Both Teams To Score

They may be Netflix darlings, but Sunderland’s recent form has made horrible viewing for fans of the Black Cats. Lee Johnson’s men have lost four of their last five games, including an embarrassing shock defeat to League Two strugglers Mansfield Town last weekend in the First Round of FA Cup. Before that defeat, Sunderland had been revelling in their role as a cup side having made it all the way to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals (where they met Arsenal), and they’ve also scored two victories on the spin in this competition.

Thankfully for Sunderland (and their confidence), the host a Bradford City side who are already out of this competition heading into the final Group H tie on Tuesday night. The Bantams sit in mid-table in League Two and have only managed to win one of their last six matches. Bradford have managed to score in each of their last five games though, so they’ll be sniffing another one here against a fragile Sunderland defence. However, we believe this is the perfect chance for the Papa John’s Trophy holders to show off their League One status to claim a much-needed and morale-boosting win.

19:00 Leyton Orient v Charlton Athletic: Draw

Despite the fact that we’re throwing our weight behind a draw in this tie, it was actually one of the easier decisions to make when it came to what to add to our betslip. That’s because these two teams already find themselves in the knockout phases as they’ve both won their two previous fixtures in Group O (yes, there really is that many groups in this competition).

Leyton Orient have had a stalemate in four of their previous six games in all competitions and it really would suit both sides to just play out an uneventful draw in this one. So much so, we’ve no other choice but to back it!

19:45 Ipswich Town v Colchester United: Ipswich Town To Win

Even though there is an entire league and 32 places separating Ipswich Town and Colchester in the league pyramid, Tuesday’s match is a straight shootout on who progresses in this tournament as they both currently have three points in Group I. Paul Cook’s men were surprisingly held by Oldham in the FA Cup on Saturday, but before that they had won three of the last four games they’d played in League One.

Meanwhile, Colchester’s priorities must be on improving their precarious league position in League Two as they are currently just five points above the relegation zone. That fact has tempted us into tipping the home outfit to come out on top here.
