20:00 Man City v Club Brugge: Riyad Mahrez To Score Anytime
After suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace, The Citizens may want to send out a message to the football world in this game, so it could be a long night for Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium. City won the reverse fixture in Group A on an emphatic 5-1 scoreline in Belgium a few weeks ago and a win on Wednesday evening will go a long way to confirming their progression into the knockout stages.
One of the benefactors from the Pep Guardiola selection merry-go-round on Wednesday could well be Riyad Mahrez, and the Algerian grabbed a brace the last time these two sides clashed. Mahrez has scored a whopping five times on the three occasions he’s faced off against Club Brugge (scoring three times for Leicester against them) in his career. The City winger has also netted three in his last four City appearances, and we fancy him to add to that tally here.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
20:00 RB Leipzig v Paris Saint-Germain: Kylian Mbappé To Score Anytime
As surprising as it was to see Mauricio Pochettino hook off just Lionel Messi after half-time against Lille at the weekend, it proved a master stroke as his side overturned a 1-0 half-time deficit to win 2-1 against the current Ligue 1 champions, Angel Di Maria winning it in the 88th minute. It has since emerged that the great Argentine has a hamstring injury and will miss Wednesday trip to Germany to take on RB Leipzig.
That means Poch will have to turn to another of his star men to carry the goalscoring load, and who better than French wonderkid Kylian Mbappé. An ear infection kept Mbappé out of the Lille game, but he returns to the Parisians squad here having netted four times in five games for club and country. He may want away from the club next summer, but that his slowed down his goalscoring production line and we expect him to churn out another goal here.
20:00 Liverpool v Atletico Madrid: Sadio Mané To Score Anytime
You’ll probably be stunned not to see Mohamed Salah’s name appear as the selection here and in fairness, you probably have reason to be. But, hear us out! Sadio Mané looks to be returning to form at the right time for Jurgen Klopp’s men and it will be a welcome boost, after they crumbled to let Brighton steal a come-from-behind draw at Anfield on Saturday.
Reds fans may have been perplexed not to see the Sadio Mané in the starting line-up for their 5-0 demolition of Manchester United, but he was back with a bang against the Seagulls and confidently powered in a back-post header from a delicious Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cross to double Liverpool’s advantage on Saturday. The Senegalese wide-man has quietly notched six goals in his last 10 outings, so he could well grab a spot on the scoreboard on Wednesday evening against Atletico Madrid.
20:00 Borussia Dortmund v Ajax: Thorgan Hazard To Score Anytime
Having been battered 4-0 by Ajax last time out, Borussia Dortmund shouldn’t lack motivation to win this Group C clash. The German side will also be desperate for a win to fend of the challenge of Sporting, who sit just three points behind them in third place. Thankfully for head coach Marco Rose, he has seen his side bounce back from that humiliation at the hands of the Dutch champions to win the next three games on-the-bounce.
And, it’s been a surprising player leading the charge, as Eden Hazard’s little brother Thorgan has banged in three goals in the last two matches. Hazard has struck four times in his last 10 games in fact, and we’re backing him to continue his scoring streak in this contest.
