Another day another derby. That’s the mood around Tottenham who make the short trip to the East End to take on West Ham on Sunday. Spurs have been in patchy form while The Hammers are riding on the crest of a wave.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
With this in mind it’s surprising to see that Spurs head into the weekend in 5th and two places above West Ham in the league. However, they could be leapfrogged with a loss. So, with a lot to work out, Paddy Power’s football ambassador Phil Thompson teams up with our football trader Brian McDonnell to deliver the best bets for Sunday’s rather-tasty appetiser.
Sunday 2pm: West Ham v Tottenham
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
THOMMO: It’s a massive game. This is quite astonishing isn’t it: West Ham v Spurs is the big derby, Arsenal v Spurs is the big derby, Chelsea v Spurs is the big derby, so it makes it very, very difficult for Spurs. They’ve lost the last four London derbies which is quite astonishing.
You’re looking at the goal scoring, they’ve only scored nine. I know they got the goals last week against Newcastle, scoring three. But they’ve only scored nine goals. They’ve conceded 12 in their last five games.
I don’t think you can be backing Spurs at this moment, they’re too flaky. West Ham, they’re looking quite tough to beat. Michail Antonio has scored more goals against Spurs than any other side with five. So, as you can imagine, I will be going for Michail Antonio to Score Anytime.
West Ham have won four of their last five in all competitions, they’ve won three of their last four in the Premier League so I’m going to plump for West Ham to Win here. Both Teams to Score as well and Michail Antonio for West Ham. I’m talking West Ham to Win 2-1.
BRIAN: It’s going to be a really good game, a really close game, I think. I agree with Phil, I think there’s definitely going to be goals. Tottenham won their first three league games 1-0 but they haven’t kept a clean sheet since then.
They’ve conceded 17 goals in their last eight matches in all competitions. I’m going to go with West Ham to Win. They’re only a point off Spurs in the table with just two defeats all season. They’re a bit inconsistent but I think they’ll be well up for this London derby, The stadium will be rocking.
I think they can get the win. In terms of a goal scorer, even though I am going for a West Ham Win it will be interesting to see if Harry Kane can Score Anytime and work off the back of the goal he scored last week, a really good instinctive finish against Newcastle, his first goal in the league.
I know Phil likes looking at players who have good record in the head-to-heads. He’s scored 11 goals in 16 appearances against West Ham so he loves his fixture. It will be interesting to see if he can follow up with another goal but in terms of the match result I’d rather be on West Ham to Win. I’m going to go with West Ham to Win and Both Teams To Score.
