Thursday rolls around again and that means two things; the weekend is within touching distance and we’ve got another bucketload of Europa League and Europa Conference action to tide us through. We’re visiting far flung corners of Europe this week as well as some action a little closer to home.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Today it’s a Both Teams to Score acca on the agenda and we’re ticking off yeses and noes for Thursday’s 8pm matches in both competitions. We’ve got five games to shake down so, without any more waffle, let’s jump into this midweek five fold.

David Moyes West Ham Doncaster FA Cup January 23, 2021

CFR Cluj v AZ Alkmaar – No

The first two games come from the Europa Conference and we’re off to Romania where CFR Cluj host AZ Alkmaar of The Netherlands. We’re kicking off with Both Teams to Score? No in this one.

Both teams have have had one yes and one no so far in this competition but AZ have really started to hit their straps of late, winning four on the bounce in all competitions. In terms of BTTS, it lands quite often for the Dutch side, but I think they’re going to control this game.

Cluj have seen BTTS Yes land just twice in the last eight in all competitions, winning just three times over that timeframe. With AZ expected to dominate I think they’ll keep the Romanian side at bay with Both Teams To Score? No.

FC Basel v Omonia – No

Swiss giants FC Basel host Omonia Nicosia which, no, isn’t a sea-dwelling mollusc, but is in fact the reigning Cypriot champions. They’re managed by Henning Berg as well, which is nice.

Anyway, we’re not here for grossly in-depth history lessons, we’re only worried about this game which should be a walk in the park for Basel. Omonia are struggling in the Cypriot league so God knows how they’re going to fare against a side who are unbeaten in nine and have won five of their last six.

Actually, it’s not that difficult to work out. It’s going to go badly. Basel are normally pretty tight at the back and they almost-always score, firing a blank in just one of the 20 competitive games this term. But Omonia are several levels below the Swiss and we should see Both Teams to Score? No again here.

Napoli v Legia Warsaw – Yes

TV: BT Sport 2 Extra

Finally to some goals and Serie A’s top-placed club, Napoli. They welcome Legia Warsaw to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium one the back of a flawless domestic campaign where they’ve played eight, won eight, scored 19 and conceded just three.

Ripe for another Both Teams To Score? No, no? Well, in the Europa League they’ve been uncharacteristically leaky, shipping five goals in two games, drawing 2-2 with Leicester and suffering a shock 3-2 home loss to Spartak Moscow last time out as they rest and rotate with both eyes firmly on a potential Serie A title.

That leaves the door open for Legia who, in contrast to their hosts, have been saving their best for this particular stage. They’ve beaten The Foxes and Spartak so far this campaign and you’d fancy them to net against Napoli’s leaky Europa defence. Both Teams to Score? Yes is the way to play here.

Rangers v Brondby – No

TV: BT Sport 3

To Scotland where Rangers tackle Brondby looking for their first point in Group A. The Danes only have one point after two games with both failing to register a goal so far. Yes, I can see you’re one step ahead of me.

The Gers top the Premiership but don’t look anywhere near as ruthless as last season while Brondby are struggling in the Danish Superliga and are 6th. Both Teams To Score? No has landed in 100% of these two’s Europa League games this year and we’re on it again.

West Ham v Genk – No

TV: BT Sport 2 and BT Sport Ultimate

And finally to West Ham who welcome Genk to east London on Thursday night. The Hammers are going pretty well domestically and have won both of their Europa League Group H games To Nil so far.

Genk have won one and lost one and are having a tricky time in the Belgian Pro League, sitting 6th after 11 games. With the Hammers in good form in this competition you’d be confident they’ll notch another win without conceding and, therefore, Both Teams To Score? No is again the pick in this one.
