Paddy Power ambassador Phil Thompson is back to discuss his old side Liverpool, who face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night. He’s joined by our football trader Brian McDonnell to try and decode the game at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. Will the high-flying Reds secure another win or will Diego Simeone’s side prove too stubborn to break down?
Tuesday 8pm: Atletico Madrid v Liverpool
TV info: BT Sport 2
THOMMO
Atletico Madrid are a notoriously defensive team but they always put in a performance under Diego Simeone. They beat the struggling Barcelona 2-0 before the international brea but Liverpool will be much tougher opposition.
I really fancy Both Teams To Score and The Draw in this one. Jurgen Klopp will likely start Diogo Jota up top after giving Roberto Firmino a go in their win at Watford on Saturday. Jota is always lively and he’ll cause Atletico a lot of problems so I’m on Jota to Score First.
It’s also worth noting that La Liga cancelled Atletico’s game on the weekend so they’ll be fresh for Liverpool’s arrival which will help them massively.

Liverpool are in such great form and they’ve been the most exciting team to watch in the league, however, Atletico are always solid. Atletico not playing on the weekend will be a huge help for them too.
I’m going for The Draw and it’s a result that would probably suit both teams considering the way the results have gone so far. Liverpool and Atletico both have a lead on the other two sides in the group.
If the score is 0-0 or 1-1 after 70 minutes I can’t see either team pushing on to get the win. Liverpool play Man United at the weekend so Klopp might make a couple of changes which could hinder them slightly.
