South American football is fantastically mad, isn’t it? While international action was done and dusted on Tuesday evening for the European lads, we’ve got a full round of South American qualifiers on Thursday night into Friday morning. PSG play on Friday night by the way. You can see why Neymar’s thinking of jacking it all in.

But if it’s a pain in the arse for Neymar it’s generally good news for everyone else and that means we’ve got some elite football to try and unravel on a Thursday. No, I’m not talking about you, Europa League.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Annoyingly for us there were some unusual results on Sunday night with Brazil failing to get three points for the first time in 10 games and Venezuela winning for the first time in 50 years as the three lowest-ranked teams all enjoyed the rare but sweet taste of victory. Ok, I’ll admit it, I may have made that Venezuela stat up for dramatic effect but it’s not far off.

That drama banjaxed our bets, I’m trying not to be bitter, but let’s hope things are a little more predictable in this round of fixtures. So, let’s see what South American World Cup qualifying has for us on Thursday evening.

9pm: Bolivia v Paraguay – Over 2.5 Goals

TV: Premier Sports 1

Bolivia and Paraguay have both won just two of their combined 22 CONMEBOL qualifying games to date and they sit 9th and 6th in South American qualifying respectively. Both need to shape up and shape up quick if they’re making it to Qatar. This is a tricky one to call but Paraguay hold the bragging rights in this contest historically.

Over 2.5 Goals has landed in both of their meetings in the last 12 months with four goals in each game at the Copa America and World Cup qualifying. Paraguay have been trending towards Unders while Overs has landed in three of Bolivia’s last four. With their recent history of Over 2.5 Goals I think that’s the best play in a complicated game to call.

10pm: Colombia v Ecuador – Colombia Win & Under 2.5 Goals

TV: FreeSports

It’s 5th v 3rd here as Colombia host Ecuador, looking to leapfrog the visitors and potentially move up two spots in CONMEBOL qualifying on Thursday night. Colombia have beaten Ecuador three times more than they’ve suffered defeat against them over the years. However, Ecuador battered them 6-1 the first time these two met in this campaign.

Don’t expect that to happen again though. Over their last 10 meetings, a run going back to 2009, Colombia have won eight times, Ecuador twice, with eight of those games having Under 2.5 Goals. Throw all that into the mix and Colombia to Win and Under 2.5 Goals is a great bet in this one.

12.30am: Argentina v Peru – Argentina Win & Over 2.5 Goals

TV: Premier Sports 2

Argentina don’t have the best record against Peru, only winning two of their last five games with La Blanquirroja, but they shouldn’t have such problems here. They’ve already beat Peru 2-0 away from home in this qualifying process and are in good goal-scoring form.

At home Lionel Messi and Co have won their last two home qualifying games 3-0, Peru have lost their last two games on the road without scoring. With the home side big favourites I think there’s value in backing them to rack up another healthy score as Argentina win with Over 2.5 Goals in the game.

1.30am: Brazil v Uruguay – Brazil to Win to Nil

TV: Premier Sports 1

Remember when I said I’m not bitter. Well, I lied. I’m still smarting from Brazil dropping their first points of the campaign last time out against Colombia and scuppering our Sunday acca. However, I’m all about redemption and I’m giving Selecao a golden opportunity to get back in my good books. I’m sure they’re delighted.

Anyway, they’ve still only conceded three goals in 10 games, rattling in 22 at the other end. Uruguay aren’t bad and they’re clinging onto the final automatic qualification spot. Brazil have Won to Nil against La Celeste the last two times they’ve met and there’s a very good chance they’ll do so again in the early hours of Friday morning.
